Position Summary

The Human Resource Generalist will assist in the management and administration of Human Resources policies, procedures, and programs. This position will act as a key resource in addressing employee questions and concerns for all HR matters, including recruiting, onboarding, benefits, payroll, and conflict resolution, escalating to the Director of Human Resources as needed. Domestic travel may be required. 


Duties and Responsibilities

  • HR Administration: Maintain accurate employee records and ensure confidentiality of sensitive information, including promotions, transfers, leave of absence, etc. 
  • Recruiting and Onboarding: Assist with full-cycle recruitment, including posting jobs, screening candidates, extending offers, managing new hire onboarding, and retention.
  • Training and Development: Assist with performance management and employee training and development initiatives.
  • Benefits & Compensation: Assist with employee benefits and compensation administration, including timekeeping and payroll processing.  
  • Employee Relations: Build trust to educate and guide managers on employee relations, including but not limited to conflict resolution, disciplinary action, and conducting investigations.
  • Policy & Compliance: Stay up to date on HR and payroll regulations and best practices to ensure alignment with employment laws and government reporting regulations that impact HR functions, such as EEO, ADA, FMLA, etc. Prepare HR reports, presentations, and other documents requested.

Requirements
  • Must have a knowledge of HR policies, procedures, and best practices.
  • Must have ability to maintain confidentiality and a professional demeanor.
  • Must have HRIS knowledge, experience with Paylocity preferred. 
  • Must have strong organizational, time-management, written, and verbal communication skills.
  • Must have strong Microsoft Office Suite computer skills.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Education and Experience 

  • Bachelor’s degree required, or equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
  • 4+ Years of Human Resources experience required. 
  • Experience in shipbuilding, manufacturing, and/or defense contractor industries strongly preferred.
  • Certifications and/or Licenses: SHRM and/or HRCI certifications preferred.

Physical Demands and Work Environment 

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to sit and occasionally stand or walk; use hands to handle materials or equipment; reach with hands and arms; stoop and kneel; and talk or hear. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 15 pounds. While performing the duties of this job, the employee’s workspace is in a clean and comfortable climate-controlled setting with little to no exposure to the moving equipment, elements, extreme conditions, or risk of injury. The noise level in the work environment is usually quiet. When entering the shipyard, areas of the work environment may not be climate-controlled, and there is exposure to moving equipment, etc.
