Description

We are searching for an Actuary to join our Actuarial & Business Analytics department. Reporting to the Vice President - Actuarial & Business Analytics, this individual will join a highly collaborative 8-person department. 


We will consider the following candidates:

- Based in the Nashville/ Brentwood, TN area;

- Currently residing outside the Nashville/Brentwood, TN area and willing to relocate (relocation assistance available);

- Currently residing outside the Nashville/Brentwood, TN area and not willing to relocate but able to travel to our Brentwood, TN corporate office for the final interview and throughout the year as needed (typically 3-4x/year). 


We cannot consider candidates who:

- Currently reside in, and would need to continue residing in, California, New York, and Illinois. 

- Currently reside in, and would need to continue residing in, a location more than 1 hour outside the Central Time zone (we'll accept candidates in Eastern, Central, or Mountain Time). 


General Function

Utilize actuarial methods and innovative approaches to perform analyses that assist in pricing new and existing accounts. Oversee the monitoring and reporting on overall rate adequacy.


Major Duties and Responsibilities

· Provide actuarially sound pricing indications for large accounts.

· Provide actuarial support in the development of new products and services.

· Calculate actuarially sound overall rate indications as well as indications by rating variables. 

· Provide actuarial and statistical analyses for claim and premium trends.

· Analyze profitability by segment and propose pricing changes by rating variable.

· Determine uses for predictive analytics within pricing and risk modeling.

· May direct the work of lower-level analysts.

· Collaborate with internal stakeholders such as Underwriting, Accounting, and Claims to support their needs for pricing, mining of data, and reporting.

· Meet or exceed supervisor’s expectations for productivity, quality, continuous improvement, and goal accomplishment.

· Contribute to SVMIC’s success by identifying opportunities and making recommendations that may lead to improved processes.

· Regular and predictable on-site attendance required.

· Ability to work remotely as business needs dictate.

· Complete special projects and other duties assigned.


Skills and Abilities Required

· Effective interpersonal skills and the ability to work independently and recognize when and how to effectively collaborate with others.

· Proficient with Microsoft Outlook, PowerPoint, and Word.

· Advanced knowledge of data processing abilities, using tools such as Microsoft Excel, Power BI, VBA, and Microsoft SQL

· Highly focused with excellent analytical, problem-solving, and critical thinking skills.

· Ability to efficiently manage multiple projects.

· Ability to research, read, comprehend, analyze, apply and distill large amounts of complex information into useful tools, presentations and/or conversations.

Requirements

Education

Bachelor’s Degree (B.A., B.S.) preferably in a quantitative field such as mathematics, statistics, economics, or actuarial science, or equivalent combination of education and specialized training.


Experience and Licensure/ Professional Designations

Fellow of the Casualty Actuarial Society (FCAS) with 3+ years of related experience.

Associate of the Casualty Actuarial Society (ACAS) with 4+ years of related experience. 

-OR-

Pre-ACAS (exam 5 must be complete) with 7+ years of related experience.

Salary Description
145,000 - 200,000 (dependent on experience)
