Regional Director of Environmental Services

Gateway Rehab Center (GRC) has an outstanding opportunity for a Regional Director of Environmental Services. As Regional Director, you will provide strategic and operational leadership for GRCs environmental services across multiple facilities in the Pittsburgh region and Erie, PA. 


You will be responsible for ensuring the reliability, safety, compliance, and cost-effective operation of all environmental assets, including facilities, utilities, building systems, and capital projects. The Regional Director partners with GRC’s executive leadership, department leaders, and vendors to support organizational goals and long-term growth. 


Responsibilities  

  • Supervises maintenance teams, including scheduling, assignment delegation and performance evaluation.
  • Purchases supplies and equipment to meet the facilities service needs. 
  • Participates in hazard surveillance and incident reporting. 
  • Participates in the development of safety policies and procedures. 
  • Develops and implements procedures for selecting, handling, storing, using and disposing of chemical hazardous materials and waste. 
  • Oversees implementation of interim life safety measures, when required. 
  • Intervenes immediately when conditions threaten life or health or threaten damage to equipment. 
  • Conducts environmental rounds at organization buildings. 
  • Develops and implements policies and procedures relating to physical security issues. 
  • Develops and implements processes for regularly inspecting, testing, and maintaining fire protection and fire safety systems, equipment and components. 
  •  Reviews proposed acquisitions of furnishings, window treatments, and other equipment for fire safety. 
  • Ensures that Gateway buildings are designed and maintained to comply with Life Safety Code. 
  • Selects and implements proper controls to reduce risk and minimize the impact of any demolition, construction, or renovation on air quality, infection control, utility requirements, noise, vibration, and emergency procedures. 
  • Oversees the operational reliability of utility systems, minimizing the potential risks of utility system failures. 
  • Identifies opportunities to improve environment of care related processes.  
  • Prepares and manages the budgets for departments for which responsible. 
  • Oversees construction projects and coordinates all projects with other departments. 
  • Vendor management - Solicits contractor/vendor estimates and bids as necessary for any deliverables that cannot be addressed in-house. 
  • Evaluates quality/cost of services provided by contractors/vendors, approves invoices against estimates/bids, account codes accordingly and makes recommendations for improvements or changes. 
  • Participates in appropriate interdepartmental and other committees, including the Health and 
  • Safety Committee. 
  • Implement the use of ticketing system to prioritize, assign, track and report on all maintenance requests. 

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities 

  • Proven organizational management and supervisory skills and knowledge in HVAC, sewage treatment, grounds-keeping, construction, plumbing and infection control. 
  • Strong leadership, strategic planning, and decision-making skills.
  • Expertise in infrastructure systems, facilities operations, and capital projects.
  • Solid understanding of regulatory compliance and life safety standards.
  • Financial acumen with experience managing budgets and capital plans.
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills.


Requirements
  • At least 8 years of progressive experience in infrastructure, facilities, or operations management.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Facilities Management, Construction Management, or related field is preferred.  
  • Certification in HVAC, sewage treatment and electrical systems preferred. 
  • Minimum of 5 years in a regional or multi-site leadership role preferred.

Other Requirements

  • Obtain PA Child Abuse and FBI Fingerprinting Clearances.
  • Pass a PA Criminal Background Check.
  • Pass Drug Screen.
  • TB Test.
  • Must have a valid driver’s license with a clean driving record. 

Work Conditions  

  • Travel to all GRC locations within the Pittsburg Region and Erie PA as needed.
  • Working conditions include exposure to hazards and the elements. 
  • Physical demands include the ability to lift up to 50 pounds on occasion. 
  • Mental demands include the ability to solve problems and respond quickly. 
  • Must have a clean driving record.
