Founded in 2000, the Milwaukee Academy of Science (MAS) is a K4-12th grade independent charter school serving over 1,900 scholars. The mission of MAS is to graduate students prepared to compete successfully at the post-secondary level. African American students comprise 97% of the student body and over 95% of students qualify for free or reduced meals. Regardless of student background and external factors, MAS maintains the expectation that with the support of our school community all students can and will learn, and will graduate high school prepared for their post-secondary educational experience.
Accountability Objectives:
The Human Resources Generalist provides support to the MAS human resources operations. This position plays an important role in supporting the work of the talent and human resources department in attracting, hiring, and retaining MAS staff. This position will provide broad support with a variety of activities from talent outreach through day-to-day human resource management.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Recruitment:
- Manages applicant verifications of employment, background, and reference checks.
- Pre-screens and interviews candidates for non licensed academic support and non-exempt staff positions to determine most qualified and promising candidates according to minimum and preferred qualifications.
Pre-Boarding, On-Boarding and Off-boarding:
- Coordinates the new employee hiring process: creating employee accounts and ensures compliance with all pre-boarding requirements.
- Initiates employee off-boarding activities: updates staff lists and required reports, tracks return of IT items and schedules exit interviews.
HRIS, Applicant Tracking, and Time/ Labor Systems:
- Performs administrative data entry across various systems and employee file maintenance.
- Conducts Paylocity reviews (HR, Payroll, Time Off Requests and UnPaid time off and supports in the facilitation of payroll related activities;
- Provides reports to employee benefits systems such as Unemployment, Disability benefits, Worker Compensation
- Manages employee access to HRIS and other HR software
- Coordinates employee updates to the HRIS system, processes self service requests, and timesheet auditing
- Processes verification of employment requests.
Benefits:
- Teaches and trains employees with basic interpretation of benefits and HR policies/procedures.
- Supports employee wellness functions including communications of emails and calendar invites for staff, planning wellness events on all campus sites, manages space, provider and payment processes for wellness activities, offers options for MAS teams in community sports organizations with enrollment/ registration/determining lead staff person for the season.
- Tracks benefit enrollment, reporting connected to benefits and assistance with first level employee support including obtaining cards, providing links to web access sites and assisting with benefits enrollment as needed; Paylocity review for benefits enrollments and terminations for MAS, broker and Insurance Vendors.

Required Skills & Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree
- Experience in recruiting and/or human resources is required.

- Outgoing, energetic personality and ability to engage with a wide range of people and in a variety of circumstances.
- Ability to handle confidential data with discretion.
- Strong organization, follow-up, and information management skills, including Google Sheets, Applicant Tracking Systems (ATS) proficiency and HRIS systems
- Excellent computer skills particularly with Google Suite.
- Self-directed and results-oriented.

Physical Demands
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; and talk and hear. The employee is regularly required to stand and walk. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 10 pounds. Moving items required for event or job fairs internally and in the community required.
