Job Title: High School Physical Education Teacher

Reports To: School Principal

Status: 10-month Contract (Benefits Eligible) 


Job Summary:

We are seeking a passionate and qualified Physical Education teacher to join St. Michael High School starting with the 2026-27 school year. The High School Physical Education (PE) Teacher promotes physical fitness, health, and well-being by teaching students the principles of exercise, sports, and healthy living. This role involves developing engaging lessons, fostering teamwork, and encouraging lifelong fitness habits in a safe and inclusive environment.


Key Responsibilities:

Instruction and Curriculum Development

  • Plan and deliver lessons that teach physical fitness, sportsmanship, and healthy lifestyle practices.
  • Introduce students to a variety of physical activities, including team sports, individual fitness routines, and recreational games.
  • Develop and implement a curriculum aligned with state and national physical education standards.
  • Incorporate knowledge of anatomy, nutrition, and mental health into lessons to promote holistic well-being.

Student Development and Assessment

  • Assess students’ physical fitness levels and monitor their progress.
  • Provide individualized support and encouragement to help students meet fitness goals.
  • Teach students the importance of safety, proper techniques, and injury prevention during physical activity.
  • Foster an inclusive environment that accommodates students of all fitness levels and abilities.

Classroom and Equipment Management

  • Maintain a safe and organized environment for physical activities.
  • Inspect and maintain sports equipment, ensuring it is safe and in good condition.
  • Enforce rules and procedures to promote safety and prevent injuries.

Collaboration and School Engagement

  • Work with colleagues to coordinate school-wide fitness initiatives, such as field days or intramural sports.
  • Collaborate with other teachers to integrate physical education into cross-curricular activities.
  • Communicate with parents and guardians about student progress and participation.
  • Participate in professional development opportunities to stay updated on best practices in physical education.

Faith and Mission 

  • Help students encounter Christ in and through their learning, guiding them to deepen their relationship with Him and grow as His disciples.
  • Reveal how your subject area points to the truth, beauty, and goodness of God, encouraging students to use their gifts in service of the common good.
  • Actively participate in school liturgies, prayer services, retreats, and faith-based activities, supporting the spiritual life of the community.
  • Create a classroom environment that pursues academic excellence while forming students in virtue, integrity, and their identity in Christ.

Qualifications:

Education and Certification

  • Bachelor’s degree in Physical Education, Kinesiology, or a related field
  • State teaching certification in Physical Education.
  • CPR and First Aid certification (preferred).

Skills and Experience

  • Strong knowledge of physical fitness, sports, and health education.
  • Experience teaching or coaching high school students is preferred.
  • Excellent classroom management and organizational skills.
  • Ability to motivate and inspire students to adopt healthy habits.
  • Knowledge of adaptive physical education practices is a plus.

Work Environment:

  • Gymnasium, outdoor fields, and classroom settings.
  • May involve physical activity, such as demonstrating exercises or participating in sports.
  • Occasional evening or weekend commitments for school sports events or activities.
