Description

Venesco, LLC., is seeking a Research Associate to work at United States Army Institute of Surgical Research (USAISR). The vision of the USAISR is to be the world’s premier research organization enabling readiness and delivering evidence-based solutions for the optimal care of the combat wounded.


Hours: Normal workdays are Monday through Friday, except U.S. Federal holidays. Contractors shall typically work eight (8) hours per day, forty (40) hours per week. USAISR's core hours of work are between the hours of 0800 to 1500 daily. Contractor is expected to be available during core hours.


The successful candidate will work directly with the Client and support team members to:

  • Key Task 1: Contractor shall provide sterile surgical and post-surgical care for animals.
  • Key Task 2: Contractor shall induce anesthesia for animals during protocols.
  • Key Task 3: Contractor shall recognize pain/distress in animals and take appropriate measures, as provided during ISR-directed training, to alleviate/mitigate the symptoms. Mitigation efforts include increased monitoring and providing analgesics. Veterinary services assistance should be sought if the initial efforts are not successful, or conditions do not improve.
  • Key Task 4: Contractor shall assist in the necropsy, tissue collection, tissue preservation, and carcass disposal of experimental animals.
  • Key Task 5: Contractor shall collect data from animal research subjects using advanced imaging systems/ physiologic monitoring systems.
  • Key Task 6: Contractor shall conduct daily calibration of monitoring equipment during active protocols.
  • Key Task 7: Contractor shall clean and sterilize all instruments/equipment in the surgery area.
  • Key Task 8: Contractor shall maintain all required materials and supplies in the laboratory, surgery and storage areas.
  • Key Task 9: Contractor shall submit equipment and supply requests for approval by a government official
  • Key Task 10: Contractor shall prepare media, buffers and reagents for experiments.
  • Key Task 11: Contractor shall handle both animal/human pathological material.
  • Key Task 12: Contractor shall utilize proper disposal of liquid wastes.
  • Key Task 13: Contractor shall utilize spreadsheets and image analysis programs for data analysis
  • Key Task 14: Contractor shall isolate biomolecules from study samples. Deoxyribonucleic acid (DNA), ribonucleic acid (RNA), and proteins are the most commonly extracted biomolecules.
  • Key Task 15: Contractor shall separate and analyze sample proteins using various laboratory techniques. These techniques include enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA), magnetic bead multiplex assays and Western Blotting.
  • Key Task 16: Contractor shall provide technical assistance to PIs/AIs/Senior Research Technicians, as requested.
  • Key Task 17: Contractor shall learn new methods and techniques as required.
  • Key Task 18: Contractor shall accurately enter and organize data collected during protocols utilizing Excel spreadsheets (Deliverable 18).
  • Key Task 19: Contractor shall maintain records of experiments.
  • Key Task 20: Contractor shall generate data for inclusion in study presentations and publications
  • (Deliverable 19).
  • Key Task 21: Contractor shall perform basic statistical computations of "raw data” (e.g. mean, standard deviation, standard error, and analysis of variance).
Requirements
  • Degree: Completion of a Bachelors Degree in a Biomedical Science.
  • Experience: Two years of experience as a research technician. Experience working with mice, rats or pigs in a research setting.
  • Certification: Certification by the American Association for Laboratory Animal Science or willingness to become certified.
  • Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Exceptionally self-motivated, directed, and detail oriented.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office (word, Excel, Outlook) and Adobe Acrobat.
  • US Citizenship or green card is required for this position.
