Job Summary: 

The Associate Corporate Counsel will provide legal support focusing on real estate transactions, commercial contracts, compliance, and day-to-day legal support for business operations. This position is ideal for an early-career attorney eager to gain broad exposure to in-house practice within a publicly traded real estate company.


Job Duties and Responsibilities:


Real Estate & Transactional Support

  • Draft, review, and negotiate commercial real estate transactions, including acquisitions, dispositions, leasing, amendments, and financing. 
  • Support due diligence activities for acquisitions, dispositions, and redevelopment projects, including title, survey, and document review. 
  • Coordinate with internal teams, third-party vendors, and outside counsel to ensure seamless transaction closing. 
  • Prepare lease and loan abstracts.


Commercial Contracts

  • Provide legal support to internal teams, such as drafting, reviewing, and negotiating routine commercial agreements, including NDAs, vendor contracts, and service agreements. 
  • Manage contracts life cycle.


Corporate

  • Assist with corporate compliance matters, including entity management and policy administration, excluding securities and corporate governance.
  • Maintain legal department records and matter tracking.
  • Support special projects, litigations, and operational legal needs.
Requirements

 Required

  • J.D. from an accredited law school. 
  • Active VA state bar membership.
  • 1-3 years of legal experience, including law firm or in-house.
  • Detail oriented and strong organizational abilities.
  • Excellent negotiation, communication, and analytical skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet tight deadlines in a fast-paced environment.


Preferred

  • Experience drafting and negotiating real estate and corporate documents. 
  • Familiarity with financing and leasing transactions. 
  • Experience working with cross-functional business teams.

Physical Demands and Work Environment:


While performing the duties of this job, the employee will regularly work inside an office. Performing this job will require the use of hands to fingers with the ability to handle, or feel objects, stand, sit, walk, talk, and hear. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus. Employees may occasionally lift and/or move up to 10 pounds.
