Description

Position Summary

The Construction Project Manager is responsible for the full lifecycle of assigned projects including but not limited to planning, risk assessment and mitigation, scheduling, budgeting, internal and external communication and profitability. The Construction Project Manager may oversee and supervise Superintendents, will serve and train new team members and may handle larger projects. The Construction Project Manager is responsible for supporting a team with overall direction to complete a restoration or reconstruction project effectively and efficiently (schedules, organizes, and controls assigned projects). The Construction Project Manager plays a critical role in providing services that facilitate and support client operations. They work directly with clients and will directly monitor project activities. They coordinate with other departments to ensure all aspects of each project are completed to fulfill client needs. The Construction Project Manager runs projects on a day-to-day basis and will verify that the project produces the required deliverables of quality, within the specified constraints of time and cost and to achieve the potential benefits defined in the business case. This also includes management of issues, risks and project change requests to ensure successful and on-time project delivery. This position also has oversight and supervision of day-to-day sub-contractors including issuing purchase orders and insuring proper performance of agreed scopes. 

The ideal candidate is a proactive and strategic leader with strong organizational skills and a proven ability to manage both people and projects in a fast-paced environment and capable of operating without direct supervision or guidance with respect to overseeing the overall direction of construction projects and work orders and client satisfaction.   


Key Responsibilities

  • Full project life cycle ownership: Manage and oversee all aspects of project life cycle. Successful project delivery will include full implementation from preplanning through closeout for several major and minor initiatives simultaneously.
  • Establishes practices, templates, policies, tools and partnerships to expand and mature these capabilities for the organization.
  • Provide day-to-day directions to assigned project team by building and motivating team members to meet project goals, adhere to their responsibilities and project milestones, including staffing, scheduling, and budgeting.  
  • Full project life cycle ownership: successful project delivery will include full implementation from initiation to deployment on multiple projects. 
  • Daily communication with Field team to support their field and site management of the assigned projects and other duties as assigned. 
  • Ensure Technicians are scheduled and given proper scopes and/or guidance as to the work to be performed. 
  • Directly supervise and mentor technicians, ensuring proper training, performance management, and adherence to company policies, including recommendations to management regarding performance reviews, hiring, firing and discipline.
  • Secures, hires, oversees, and terminates sub-contractors. 
  • Oversee and provide guidance on assigned projects to clients, vendors, and Watterson staff.  
  • Manage all aspects of assigned projects and program engagement from planning, external vendor performance, communication, resources, budget, change, and overall support of the production team.
  • Monitor, track and control outcomes to resolve issues, conflicts, dependencies and critical path deliverables. 
  • Report on project success criteria results, metrics, test and deployment management activities. 
  • Participate in establishing practices, templates, policies, tools and partnerships to expand and mature these capabilities for the organization. 
  • Proactively develop relationships with the subcontractor community.
  • Assist in the procurement of adequate resources to achieve project objectives within planned timeframes. 
  • Provide status reporting regarding project milestones, deliverables, dependencies, risks and issues. 
  • Establish practices, templates, policies, tools and partnerships to expand and mature these capabilities for the organization. 
  • Initiate and maintain liaison with owners and other contacts to facilitate project activities. 
  • Investigate potentially serious situations and implement corrective measures; Investigate, resolve, and troubleshoot issues related to client projects, including but not limited to quality control, budgeting, and timeliness.
  • Create procedures, parameters, protocols, and standards, including NTEs, on-site work protocols, and scope of work. 
  • Consult with and advise management on all aspects of project management, client projects, and deliverables to clients. 
  • Leverages industry expertise to negotiate contract terms with subcontractors and clients. 
  • Creates and directs project schedules, budgets, costs, bids, and materials.
  • Authorizes change orders, discounts, and changes in pricing consistent with client needs and market conditions.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements

Experience/Education Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management, engineering, architecture, preferred. 
  • At least 5 years of work experience, with a minimum of 2 years’ experience in a similar role, ideally managing people. 
  • Knowledge of building codes.
  • Ability to read and understand blueprints and structural documents.
  • Industry Certifications, preferred.

Technical/Soft Skills:

  • Basic understanding of restoration and/or construction techniques & building materials
  • Proficient with Microsoft applications (e.g. Word, Excel)
  • Strong time management and organizational skills
  • Excellent communication & interpersonal skills
  • Ability to prioritize tasks and meet deadlines
