Position Overview
The Senior Director is responsible for overseeing and managing the organization’s holistic security business line, ensuring proper structure, financial projections, the protection of assets, employees, and critical infrastructure. This role involves leading a team of security professionals, developing and implementing a business plan, security strategies, and driving improvements in security processes and technologies. The Senior Director will collaborate with the company’s senior leadership and other department heads to align security objectives with the company’s overall business goals.
Key Responsibilities:
Leadership & Management:
- Lead, mentor, and manage the security team across various regions and departments.
- Set performance goals, provide guidance, and ensure professional development of security staff.
- Foster a culture of security awareness and proactive threat mitigation across all levels of the organization.
- Ensure effective resource allocation to meet security needs and initiatives.
Strategic Planning:
- Develop and implement comprehensive security strategies that align with the company’s goals and objectives.
- Establish security operational policies, procedures, and protocols to mitigate risks and ensure compliance with legal and regulatory requirements.
- Evaluate and improve existing security programs, technologies, and risk management practices.
Security Operations Oversight:
- Oversee day-to-day security operations, including surveillance, physical security, access control, and emergency response planning.
- Manage relationships with external security partners and vendors, ensuring their performance aligns with security needs.
Collaboration & Communication:
- Work closely with senior leadership, business units, IT, legal, compliance, and other departments to integrate security initiatives into overall business strategies.
- Communicate security risks, vulnerabilities, and actions to senior executives, board members, and external stakeholders as needed.
- Represent the organization in interactions with law enforcement and regulatory bodies.
Compliance & Regulatory Oversight:
- Ensure adherence to local, national, and international security regulations and standards.
- Oversee audits, investigations, and compliance reporting to ensure alignment with security industry best practices and governmental requirements.
Budget & Resource Management:
- Develop and manage the budget for the security department, ensuring cost-effective solutions while maintaining high operational standards.
- Negotiate contracts with security service providers, technology vendors, and consultants.
Continuous Improvement:
- Stay up to date with industry trends, emerging threats, and technological advancements to proactively adjust security strategies.
- Lead initiatives to continuously improve security processes and performance metrics.
- Ensure robust training programs for staff and the broader organization on security best practices and emergency response protocols.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in security management, Business Administration, or a related field (master’s preferred).
- Proven experience (typically 10+ years) in security operations, with at least 5 years in a leadership role.
- Expertise in physical security, cybersecurity, risk management, and crisis management.
- Experience with security technologies, surveillance systems, access control, and threat intelligence platforms.
- Advanced knowledge and utilization of Microsoft Office, CRM tools, Budget control and tracking tools such as QuickBooks
- Strong knowledge of relevant laws, regulations, and compliance standards related to security.
- Exceptional leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to develop and implement security strategies in alignment with business objectives.
- Proven experience in managing budgets, external vendors, and multi-functional teams.
- Relevant certifications (e.g., Certified Protection Professional (CPP), Certified Information Systems Security Professional (CISSP), Certified Information Security Manager (CISM)) are highly desirable.
Working Conditions:
- Based in Illinois, with potential travel requirements.
