Description

Position Summary 

The Lab Technician supports quality control by performing routine laboratory testing of plastic compounds and producing molded or extruded samples using laboratory-scale injection molding and extrusion equipment. This role bridges laboratory testing and small-scale production to ensure materials and processes meet established specifications. 


Essential Duties and Responsibilities 


Quality Control & Laboratory Responsibilities 

  • Perform routine testing of plastic compounds, raw materials, blends, and finished goods according to established procedures. 
  • Accurately test, document, and log all samples in a timely manner. 
  • Immediately report any test results outside specified requirements to the QC Lab Supervisor. 
  • Maintain laboratory cleanliness, organization, and sample storage areas. 
  • Ensure all laboratory and sampling equipment operates within manufacturer specifications. 
  • Maintain complete and accurate testing records and documentation. 

Process & Sample Production Responsibilities 

  • Operate laboratory-scale injection molding equipment to produce test parts and samples for quality control and development purposes. 
  • Set up, monitor, and make basic adjustments to injection molding machines under established guidelines. 
  • Learn to operate and assist with a miniature extruder for small-scale trials, testing, and development projects. 
  • Prepare materials for molding and extrusion, including material handling and basic blending as required. 
  • Document process conditions and communicate results or issues to the Supervisor. 
  • Support troubleshooting efforts related to sample production quality and consistency. 

General Responsibilities 

  • Communicate consistently with the QC Lab Supervisor regarding priorities, test results, and production needs. 
  • Follow all safety, quality, and company policies and procedures. 
  • Perform other duties as assigned by management. 
Requirements

 

Qualifications and Education Requirements 

  • Entry-level position; 0–3 years of experience in a laboratory, manufacturing, or plastics environment preferred. 
  • High school diploma or equivalent required. 
  • Basic mechanical aptitude and willingness to learn equipment operation. 
  • Strong attention to detail, time management, and ability to prioritize tasks. 
  • Ability to read and follow written procedures and work instructions. 

Preferred Skills and Abilities 

  • Experience or exposure to plastics processing, injection molding, or extrusion (lab-scale or production). 
  • Competent written and verbal communication skills. 
  • Bilingual in English and Spanish preferred. 
  • Ability to lift up to 60 pounds. 
  • Ability to stand or sit for extended periods. 
  • Ability to work in environments with varying temperatures, humidity, moisture, and dust. 

Additional Information 

  • Training period of approximately 4–8 weeks only on first shift. 
  • Attendance must be in good standing and in compliance with company policy.
