Job Role
ProgenyHealth is seeking an Interoperability Engineer to collaborate with engineering and product teams to design, develop, and support technical interoperability solutions in support of ProgenyHealth’s proprietary Baby Trax and MomPath platforms. This position will support interoperability initiatives throughout the planning, design, development, implementation, and production monitoring stages in a delegated authority healthcare environment, with a strong focus on Prior Authorization and Claims process improvements.
Requirements
Responsibilities Include:
- Participate in the following business rhythms:
- Maintain, update, and take ownership of existing and new interoperability products and integrations.
- Participate in Agile Project Planning & Estimation meetings, reviewing feature backlogs and identifying potential impacts to timelines, budgets, resources, and project scope.
- Facilitate clear communication and expectation alignment with integration partners.
- Participate in client planning meetings discussing Electronic Data Interchange (EDI), Prior Authorization, Claims workflows, and Web Service interface designs with external partners.
- Participate in third-party COTS integration planning meetings.
- Engineering & Delivery Responsibilities:
- Design, develop, implement, test, and support custom interoperability interfaces using NextGen Mirth Connect or equivalent integration platforms.
- Develop and maintain transformation, routing, and validation logic using JavaScript.
- Write, optimize, and maintain SQL queries to support interface logic, data validation, and reconciliation.
- Build and enhance integrations supporting Prior Authorization and Claims workflows, including eligibility, authorization requests, clinical documentation exchange, and status updates.
- Thoroughly analyze problem definitions, requirements, and software deliverables to ensure solutions are scalable, performant, and reliable.
- Understand and implement author specifications and requirements for new development and enhancements of interfaces and data exchange solutions following industry standards, including HIE, X12, HL7, and FHIR.
- Validate and verify that software and integration requirements are achieved.
- Production Support Responsibilities:
- Perform support duties, “keeping the lights on” for production data exchange solutions.
- Monitor existing interfaces, resolving or escalating errors and performance issues as appropriate.
- Troubleshoot complex Prior Authorization and Claims integration issues and perform root cause analysis.
- Prioritize customer and operational issues appropriately and communicate updates clearly to stakeholders.
- Use sound judgment to determine issues that require escalation.
- General Responsibilities:
- Demonstrate strong interpersonal and communication skills, both written and oral.

- Work effectively with senior developers, project management, and senior interface SMEs.
- Ability to prioritize and handle multiple assignments simultaneously.

Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in a related field of study or discipline (Computer Science, Information Technology, Software Engineering, Management Information Systems).
- 5+ years of experience supporting Agile software development teams delivering integration or interoperability solutions.
- Experience in the development, testing, and utilization of Web Services and REST-based Web APIs (SOAP experience a plus).
- Hands-on experience with NextGen Mirth Connect (preferred) or another interoperability / integration engine.
- Knowledge of healthcare standards and protocols, including X12, HL7, FHIR, and CCDA.
- Hospital or managed care information systems experience; integration of third-party COTS software with proprietary applications preferred.
- 2+ years of SQL experience, including the ability to write and optimize join-based queries.
Preferred:
- Experience with X12 278, 834, 270/271, and 835/837 transaction standards.
- Prior experience supporting Prior Authorization and Claims workflows, including payer integrations and delegated authority models.
- Microsoft SQL Server Integration Services, Reporting Services, and Analysis Services experience.
- Experience with JSON, WebAPI, and SOAP-based integrations.
- SQL Server database management application experience.
- SQL query development and optimization experience.
- Awareness of Microsoft Azure services and cloud-based integration environments.
- Strong understanding of software development lifecycle best practices and processes.
