Description

General Summary: Designs, plans, upgrades and implements networking systems and troubleshoots operating system problems.

Duties and Responsibilities (functions considered essential are marked by an *):

  • *Analyzes the network infrastructure to implement productivity improvements and minimize overall network costs, and provides comparative data of performance characteristics and suitability with the existing system environment
  • *Utilizes a variety of testing tools and techniques to troubleshoot and resolve complex technical problems associated with the system’s network servers
  • *Assesses and optimizes network design to meet user requirements by conducting periodic feasibility studies and evaluating and recommending vendor network hardware/software products
  • *Directs the enhancement of the system to meet organizational needs
  • *Develops and tests network communication interface products and provides technical guidance pertaining to front-end platforms, network simulations and traffic queuing
  • *Troubleshoots network usage, workstations and computer peripherals
  • *Provides network design, support, and disaster recovery services 
  • *Produces quality, accurate network and systems documentation and diagrams
  • Performs other incidental and related duties as required
Requirements

Educational Requirements: 

Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent technical experience

Required Certification/Licensure:

Valid state driver’s license

Experience Requirements:

5 years related network experience  

Knowledge/ Skills: 

Broad range of network and desktop knowledge and skills; working knowledge of router configuration, network provider services, routing protocol options and network principles; familiarity with operating systems with experience in installation and administration of one or more operating systems; strong interpersonal, analytical, problem-solving and conceptual skills; good verbal and written communication skills; ability to effectively adapt to rapidly changing technology and apply it to business needs. Physical Demands:

Must be able to lift/carry materials up to 25lbs, move about the office, turn on and operate a computer in the applicable environment, communicate efficiently and effectively on the telephone or in person, and complete required paperwork. Subject to long, irregular hours and 24-hour on-call availability. Required to crawl under desks and other tight places to connect network cable and power connections.  

Working Conditions: 

Standard indoor office environment; Occasional travel to field locations.

Travel: Minimal (less than 25%) based on business needs
