About the Role

In-Place Machining Company (IPM) is seeking a skilled Horizontal Boring Bar Machinist with strong experience programming and running Siemens-controlled equipment. The ideal candidate is proficient in Mastercam, able to write and edit longhand G-code, and experienced machining large, complex parts in a heavy industrial environment.

Requirements

 Key Responsibilities

  • Set up and operate horizontal boring bars and horizontal machining equipment for large-part machining.
  • Create and optimize CNC programs using Mastercam and longhand programming at the machine.
  • Interpret blueprints, engineering drawings, and GD&T to ensure dimensional accuracy.
  • Select proper speeds, feeds, tooling, and workholding methods for a variety of materials.
  • Perform precision setups including indicating, aligning, and leveling large components.
  • Inspect parts using micrometers, bore gages, indicators, and other precision tools.
  • Collaborate with Engineering and Quality to improve processes and ensure part accuracy.
  • Follow safety procedures, contribute to 5S, and maintain a clean, organized workstation.

Required Qualifications

  • 5+ years as a CNC Machinist working on horizontal boring bars or similar large machining centers.
  • Strong experience with Siemens controls.
  • Proficiency with Mastercam for CNC programming.
  • Ability to write, edit, and troubleshoot longhand G-code programs.
  • Demonstrated ability to machine large parts with tight tolerances.
  • Strong understanding of machining math, GD&T, and blueprint interpretation.
  • Experience with overhead cranes, rigging, and handling large workpieces.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience machining large weldments, castings, or complex multi-setup components.
  • Familiarity with probing systems and in-process inspection.
  • Background in heavy industry (power generation, mining, defense, marine, or industrial manufacturing).
  • Experience optimizing toolpaths and improving machining efficiency.

Physical & Work Environment

  • Ability to lift/move up to 50 lbs with assistance as needed.
  • Work around industrial machinery and use proper PPE.
  • Stand, walk, bend, and work at machines for extended periods.

Education

  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • Technical degree, machining certificate, or apprenticeship preferred.
