Supervising Dentist Description
South College Nashville is seeking a Supervising Dentist for the Dental Hygiene and Assisting program.
Responsibilities:
- Provides General Supervision for dental hygiene and assisting services pursuant to the Tennessee Dental Practice Act.
- Provides Direct Supervision for dental hygiene and assisting services pursuant to the Tennessee Dental Practice Act.
- Provides diagnostic, consultive, and referral services with guidance from clinical coordinators.
- Evaluates patient medical and dental history, periodontal charting, and restorative charting.
- Consults with primary care providers for medical clearance.
- Evaluates lesions, anomalies, or other pathologies for referral.
- Manages medical emergencies.
- Approves and evaluates dental radiographs.
- Follows AAP guidelines.
- Approves, administers, and/or supervises the administration of local anesthesia by faculty and students.
- Authorizes and evaluates dental sealants.
- Provides instruction and evaluation in the clinical setting.
- Serves as a resource for questions that faculty/students may have regarding patient care.
- Attends and participates in Faculty in-service/calibration seminars, program and department meetings, and advisory board meetings.
- Coordinates and calibrates with full-time clinical course coordinators.
- Understands and applies South College, Tennessee, Federal, State, ADA CODA, OSHA, CDC, HIPAA, FERPA, and State Board of Dentistry guidelines, policies, rules, and/or regulations.
- Complies with and is present at ADA CODA Accreditation Site Visits.
- Completes required South College Human Resources on-boarding and annual compliance trainings.
- Complies with South College Dental Hygiene clinical processes and procedures.
Requirements
Education
- Doctor of Dental Surgery or Doctor of Medical Dentistry degree from an accredited college or university.
Certification
- Current unencumbered license to practice dentistry in Tennessee.
- CPR for Health Professionals certified.
Required Experience
- Minimum 3 years of clinical practice experience.
- Evidence of effective communication skills (interpersonal, speaking, and writing).
- Evidence of respect for and understanding of people with diverse backgrounds, abilities, and needs.
- Evidence of proficiency with or ability to learn technology.
