Summary/Objective
The Quality Gauge Technician plays a dual role in ensuring product quality and efficient material flow within the facility. This position is responsible for performing in-process and final inspections at multiple production workstations, while also handling the gauge set up and the maintenance of gauge control process. This role requires attention to detail, excellent organizational skills, and flexibility to move between functions as needed.
Essential Functions

- Perform visual and dimensional inspections of incoming, in-process, and finished products to ensure compliance with specifications by using tools such as calipers, micrometers, gauges, and test equipment.
- Record inspection results accurately and clearly in logs, check sheets, or electronic systems.
- Identify and segregate nonconforming material and report issues to Quality or Production leadership.
- Conduct audits of workstations to ensure adherence to quality standards and proper documentation practices.
- Communicate quality trends or recurring issues to supervisors.
- Verify part numbers, quantities, and condition of materials during handling and storage.
- Maintain accurate inventory records using manual logs or inventory systems (ERP/WMS).
- Ensure materials are stored in designated locations and organized to prevent damage or contamination.
- Setup and recall of all gauges and fixtures that require verification or calibration at specific intervals.
- Responsible for the issuance of gauges and the timely updating of gauge status and assigned locations in gauge control software.
- Establish and track calibration intervals, monitoring gauges due for calibration, overdue gauges, and lost/missing gauges. Also, responsible to work with Engineering to identify gauging needs for new products or processes.
- Set and verify gauges to documented procedures and/or manufacturer’s recommendations to assure conformance to applicable specifications.
- Train associates in the use of gauges, when required.
- Follow all safety procedures, including proper lifting techniques and use of PPE.
- Any/all other duties as assigned.
Work Environment and Physical Demands
Working conditions are normal for a manufacturing environment. Work involves frequent lifting of materials and product up to 50 pounds and seldom lifting to 75lbs. Frequent use of hands and fingers to handle and/or adjust equipment. Moderate reaching, pushing, pulling, gripping, and grasping. Machinery operation requires the use of safety equipment to include but not limited to safety glasses, and steel toed work boots or shoes.
Position Type and Expected Hours of Work
This is a full-time position at 40+ hours per week. The standard schedule shift is from 8:00 am- 4:30pm Monday through Friday. Occasional overtime, evening and weekend work may be required to meet business demands.
Required Education and Experience
- Must be 18 years or older.
- High School Diploma/GED equivalent or significant relevant work experience.
- Minimum 1–2 years of experience in quality inspection.
- Average level of computer literacy (utilizing computers, scanners, systems, etc.).
- Capable of using measuring instruments, i.e. micrometer, calipers, gages, etc. and required hand tools (drills, nail guns, etc.).
- Ability to read/write, perform basic arithmetic, and follow verbal and written instructions.
Preferred Education and Experience
- Able to read and interpret blueprints, technical drawings, and specifications.
- Basic understanding of CNC machinery and functionality.
- 1-3 years of experience in a metal manufacturing environment.
- 1-3 years of experience working directly with CNC machinery, with hands-on knowledge of machine operation and maintenance.
- Familiarity with various CNC brands, including Mazak, INDEX, Nakamura, and Doosan, is a plus.
