Youth Development Specialist

The Youth Development Specialist (YDS) is a part-time position (20-25 hours per week) responsible for facilitating daily after-school program sessions for girls in grades K–12. This role provides leadership in designated geographic areas by planning and implementing grant-funded programs aligned with the goals and objectives of Girl Scouts of North East Ohio (GSNEO).


Programs are delivered in accordance with the requirements of specific grants and the overall mission of GSNEO. When grant-funded after-school and/or community center programs are not in session, the YDS will support additional program delivery and administrative tasks, including participation in summer camp sessions.


This position plays a vital role in delivering high-quality, engaging program experiences designed to introduce and supplement troop and group activities. The ultimate goal is to support girl engagement and retention, thereby extending and maintaining membership within Girl Scouts of North East Ohio.


 MAJOR ACCOUNTABILITIES:

1. Program Implementation: Participates in the planning and delivery of Girl Scout Leadership Experience (GSLE) programs at assigned sites. Facilitates a minimum of five (5) GSLE programs per week within a designated area during the school year (excluding summer programs).

2. Data Reporting: Records and reports attendance and program outcomes in accordance with grant reporting requirements and deadlines.

3. Site Communication & Material Prep: Assists with communication to program sites and supports the preparation of program materials.

4. Curriculum Development: Contributes to the development of curriculum for after-school and out-of-school programs.

5. Product Sales Support: Assists with the launch and implementation of the Girl Scout Cookie Program and other product sales initiatives.

6. Supply & Inventory Management: Maintains inventory of program supplies and helps order necessary program and uniform materials.

7. Volunteer Support: Builds relationships with volunteers and provides mentorship to help them understand and implement GSLE programs, offering support as needed.

8. Summer Camp Assistance: Supports summer camp programming at GSNEO camp properties.

9. Program & Admin Support During Breaks: Assists with administrative tasks, program delivery, and camp activities during after-school breaks and non-traditional programming times.

10. Team Collaboration: Works closely with the Funded Initiatives Manager and Site Coordinators to stay informed on all tasks related to grant requirements and programming at assigned locations.

11. Equity & Inclusion: Ensures diversity, equity, inclusion, and access (DEIA) are embedded in all aspects of programming and council operations.

12. Reporting & Documentation: Completes weekly time logs and monthly expense reports using Paylocity financial management software.

13. Additional Duties: Performs other duties as assigned to support the successful implementation of GSNEO’s mission, goals, and objectives.

Requirements

Education and Experience:

  • Associate degree or some college coursework preferred in education, social work, youth development,  organizational leadership, or a related field.
  • Equivalent combination of relevant work experience (2–4 years) in youth programming or related areas will be considered.
  • Knowledge of the Girl Scout program is preferred.

Other Requirements:

  • Valid driver’s license, proof of insurance, and access to a reliable, insured vehicle in good working condition.
  • Flexibility to work varied hours, including early mornings, evenings, and weekends, as needed.
