Organizational Overview

Convention of States Action is a 501(c)(4) grassroots nonprofit organization committed to restoring America by living out our mission of building an engaged grassroots army of self-governing activists. In doing so, we strive to call an amending convention under Article V of the U.S. Constitution to propose amendments to limit federal power.


Position Overview

The Prospecting Call Agent, a key member of the Development team (internally known as the External Relations team) at Convention of States, is responsible for securing meetings between senior leadership and prospective partners aligned with the organization’s mission and vision. This full-time role involves strategic outreach, consistent follow-up, and maintaining accurate recording in Salesforce to support the cultivation of potential donors.


The ideal candidate possesses exceptional interpersonal skills, thrives in phone-based communication, and is resilient in navigating objections, viewing them as opportunities to build relationships and find alignment with prospects’ philanthropic priorities. Comfort discussing financial contributions, proficiency with CRM/DMS technology, and a passion for advancing the organization’s vision are essential. The role reports to the Senior Vice President of External Relations.

Requirements

Responsibilities

  • Conduct phone and email outreach to prospective donors, securing meetings with senior leadership.
  • Engage prospects professionally over the phone, discussing financial contributions and alignment with organizational goals.
  • Follow up consistently, tracking pending pledges and re-engaging unreachable prospects.
  • Cultivate and nurture relationships, fostering potential donor engagement.
  • Maintain detailed records of all outreach activities and interactions in Salesforce.
  • Build a portfolio of committed donors from secured prospects.
  • Report outcomes and progress regularly to the Sr. VP of External Relations
  • Perform additional related duties as assigned.

Skills and Experience

  • Exceptional phone-based communication with a talent for building rapport.
  • Strong written communication skills for effective reporting and correspondence.
  • 3-5 years of sales or fundraising experience, ideally in nonprofit or advocacy settings.
  • Proficiency with CRM/DMS systems, Salesforce preferred.
  • Skilled in Zoom, Slack, Google Workspace, Excel, Anedot, and research tools (e.g., Melissa Search, Hunter.io, Smarty.com).
