Join the Delta Dental of Iowa team as a Software Developer (Oracle, PL/SQL) and play a key role in developing and maintaining our core dental benefit administration system (DBAS). In our collaborative, fast-paced environment, you will work closely with a highly skilled, tight-knit team to build and enhance software solutions and contribute across the full development lifecycle - design, development, testing, implementation, and ongoing support - while growing your skills and making a meaningful impact. This hybrid position is located in Johnston, Iowa and may be filled at any level (I, II, III, or Senior) depending on qualifications. This position is not eligible for visa sponsorship.

Essential Functions & Principal Accountabilities (for Software Developer I):
- Develop and maintain new and existing applications.
- With guidance, create and maintain basic to moderately complex applications for the benefit of internal and external customers.
- Assist in the creation of technical design documents for projects.
- Provide unit testing for all code changes with the goal of providing a stable production environment.
- Troubleshoot bugs and provide effective solutions to application defects based on user feedback.
- Ability to multi-task responsibilities and manage workloads with established deadlines.
- Ability to organize, analyze, and solve complex problems with attention to detail and accuracy.
- Develop appropriate requirements, scope, and estimates.
- Communicate consistently and effectively with internal team members to understand requirements.
- Assist project team members in creating scope documents.
- Assist project team members in the development of project estimates.
- Possess an understanding of programming languages, algorithms, data structures, and software development principles, enabling the implementation of efficient and scalable solutions.
- Fulfill roles and responsibilities of a technology team member.
- Understand the impact of projects on both business and technology.
- Provide regular updates on task status.
- Work collaboratively in a team-oriented environment and adapt to changing priorities.
- Track hours worked on assigned tasks.
- Build strong internal and external partnerships.
- Develop working relationships with internal team members and business partners.
- Develop knowledge of department processes.
- Communicate effectively, verbally and in writing, to other team members and internal business partners as required.
- Develop new skills, explore new technologies, and make recommendations as appropriate
- Work with managers and technical leads to identify a focus for learning.
- Provide on-call support when necessary.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Required (for Software Developer I)
- Associates degree in Information Systems, Computer Science, or related degree.
- 0-1 year of experience working with Oracle and PL/SQL.
Preferred (for Software Developer I)
- Bachelors degree in Information Systems, Computer Science, or related degree.
- 0-1 year of experience in application development, or an equivalent combination of education, training, and/or working experience.
- Knowledge of SQL and database design principles.
- 0-1 year of experience working with JSON, Java, XML, and CSS.
- Knowledge and experience with code development tools: Git, Bitbucket, SqlDeveloper, IntelliJ, and Jira or similar tooling.
- Knowledge and experience with APIs.
