PETA Kids, PETA's youth program for children ages 12 and younger, and TeachKind, PETA's humane education division, seek a correspondent to help us reply quickly to educators, parents, and more on our social media platforms and via email. PETA Kids and TeachKind's social media presence continues to grow rapidly, and we're looking for someone who can jump right in to answer questions.
Position Objective:
Responsible for high-volume correspondence and professional writing geared to children, parents, and educators alike
Responsibilities:
• Reply to comments and direct messages on PETA Kids' and TeachKind's various social media platforms, including Instagram, Facebook, TikTok, Threads, and more, to help keep our audience and others engaged and thinking about the animal liberation message
• Respond to emails and phone calls to TeachKind and PETA Kids on a range of topics accurately and within 24 hours during the work week
• Write and send letters to schools about promotions of circuses, the Iditarod, partnerships with SeaWorld, and more—and follow up to win campaigns
• Tweak and maintain TeachKind and PETA Kids’ form letters and track response and success rates
• Maintain usage rights for photos shared on social media (archive photos, track down permissions from third parties, maintain professional contacts, etc.)
• Participate in the team's brainstorming meetings
• Coordinate mailings to kids, parents, and educators in response to their requests for materials
• Maintain TeachKind’s customer relationship management software, Salesforce
• Research the latest teaching technology, education trends, and other relevant topics
• Perform any other tasks assigned by the supervisor
• Some office experience and a background in education or working with kids is preferable
• You must have excellent knowledge of social media and working knowledge of the Internet
• You should have proficient computer skills and familiarity with Microsoft Office
• You must have excellent writing skills (Previous experience in social media correspondence and/or professional writing is a plus)
• You should be comfortable making phone calls, as there will be times when you may be making calls to kids, parents, teachers, or school administrators
• You should have the ability to work on projects independently, as well as to collaborate successfully with the team
• You'll be helping to get our message out to the mainstream audience, so you must know and support PETA's philosophy and campaigns, and animal liberation issues inside and out
• You must have the proven ability to prioritize work, handle multiple tasks, work well under pressure, and meet deadlines
• You'd need to be committed to the objectives of the organization, including living a vegan lifestyle
• Willingness and ability to travel for conferences
• Ability to lift and carry up to 50 lbs.
The hourly pay range for this position is $15.45 - $21.65 per hour. The ultimate hourly pay within this range that will be offered to a qualified candidate will be determined based on the candidate’s experience and the cost of living in the area in which the candidate will live and work.
