Overview
Spyglass MTG is seeking a highly skilled Microsoft Purview Consultant to support end-to-end governance, security, and compliance initiatives across both structured data sources (SQL, Azure SQL, Synapse, Databricks, Power BI) and unstructured data (SharePoint, OneDrive, Teams, Exchange, file shares, Azure Files/Blob).
The ideal contractor will have handson experience deploying, configuring, and optimizing the full Purview suite including Data Map/Catalog, Information Protection, DLP, Records Management, Insider Risk, and eDiscovery while guiding customers through best practices, policies, and technical implementation.
Responsibilities
- Lead design and implementation of Microsoft Purview capabilities across enterprise data sources.
- Configure Data Map & Unified Catalog, including data scanning, classifications, lineage, business glossary, and metadata management.
- Create Custom Sensitive Information Types (SITs) including but not limited to RegEx, Fingerprinting, Exact Data Matching, and Trainable Classifiers.
- Build and deploy sensitivity labels, auto labeling, and custom sensitive info types for both structured and unstructured content.
- Implement Data Loss Prevention (DLP) policies across M365, endpoint, and cloud applications, with tuning, testing, and incident workflows.
- Establish Records Management and retention policies, including regulatory records, retention labels, and disposition review.
- Configure Insider Risk Management, including policies, indicators, roles, and investigation processes.
- Deploy and manage eDiscovery (Standard & Premium), including case setup, holds, review sets, search, and exports.
- Integrate Purview capabilities with Defender for Cloud Apps, Defender for Endpoint, and Entra ID P2 (PIM, Conditional Access, Identity Governance).
- Automate and report using PowerShell, KQL, and Microsoft Graph.
- Produce high-quality documentation, runbooks, and training for customer teams.
- Provide advisory support and roadmap planning to help customers adopt and operationalize Purview capabilities.
Qualifications
Required:
- 5+ years of experience with Microsoft 365 security & compliance tools.
- 2+ years of hands-on Microsoft Purview deployment experience.
- Strong understanding of both structured and unstructured data governance.
- Proficiency with Data Map, Unified Catalog, Information Protection, DLP, Records Management, Insider Risk, and eDiscovery.
- Experience connecting and scanning onprem, Azure, and M365 data sources.
- Familiarity with integration across Entra ID P2 and Defender for Cloud Apps/Endpoint.
- Strong skills in PowerShell, KQL, and general automation/reporting practices.
- Excellent communication and client facing consulting skills.
Preferred:
- Microsoft certifications (SC401, SC300, SC200, SC100, MS102).
- Experience with Azure analytics stack (Synapse, Databricks, Power BI governance).
- Background supporting regulated industries (HIPAA, GLBA, PCI, SOX, etc.).
