Essential Duties and Responsibilities

This position will carry out the following responsibilities:

  1. Serves each and every person with amazing customer service, by answering questions, providing service information, resolving concerns in a positive, helpful manner, by applying soft skills strategies.
  2. Collect, input, update, scan Patient Registration demographics and documents.
  3. Ensure that all patient information is adequately updated at each encounter.
  4. Cordially answer incoming UNHS phone calls; taking care to assure that accurate messages are taken and delivered to the appropriate personnel being careful to screen calls for all medical providers and taking messages for the providers;
  5. Competent in scheduling, rescheduling, and canceling patient appointments. Knowledge of appointment types and events, understand the scheduling system.
  6. Knowledge of the different types of insurance, how insurance works, insurance verification, eligibility, copayments, deductible and reimbursement.
  7. Collect payments/co-payments at the time of check-in, before services are rendered. Competent in using and understanding the payment process, ie. Opening and closing batches, post payments, reconcile batch and ledger at end of each shift.
  8. Learn and understand dental terminology well enough to be able to communicate necessary information to assist patients with their appointments.
  9. Help maintain a peaceful and orderly waiting room environment, including helping to deal with any frustrated patients.
  10. Help to maintain a smooth flow of patients from the waiting room to dental operatory and elsewhere.
  11. Help to maintain a working relationship between the front office and clinical staff;
  12. Ensure the standards of dress in order to present a professional appearance.
  13. Follow all personnel policies and procedures of Utah Navajo Health System, Inc..
  14. Maintain patient and business confidentiality as per UNHS's policies and procedures, as well as in compliance with H1PAA and other applicable law.
  15. Any other tasks, projects, or duties that are requested by the Employee's supervisor or other UNHS management or administration that is at all reasonably related to UNHS and/or the Employee's employment with UNHS.
Requirements
  • Must have at least two years of direct work experience with communicating and assisting the general public; preferably in a healthcare related work environment
  • Ability to communicate in Navajo is preferred.
  • Dental office or dental assistant experience preferred.
  • Must be able to work well with others.
  • Must be able to work flexible hours.
  • Must have an excellent work history and customer service mindset.

Education & Experience: High School Diploma. Minimum of 2 years dental or medical front desk experience that includes insurance and prior EMR, EHR or EDR experience is preferred. Prior experience in dental is preferred, including dental assisting. Certificate’s, degree or professional organization affiliation is preferred.


In accordance with Navajo Nation and federal law, UNHS has implemented an Affirmative Actin Plan pursuant to the Navajo Preference in Employment Act.

1) Enrolled Navajo (must have a CIB).

2) Applicant married to an enrolled Navajo and who has lived on the NN for more than a year.

Therefore, UNHS requires its employees to show proof of immunization prior to their employment with UNHS or during their employment. Below is a list of immunizations/vaccinations required to be employed or to continue employment with UNHS. The immunizations/vaccinations include but not limited to following:
  • MMR (Measles Rubeola, Mumps, Rubella): Documentation of two MMR vaccines (OR) Documentation of MMR titers.
  • Complete Hepatitis B vaccine series (3 doses), documented proof of titers indicating immunity, or a declination that may be signed upon arrival.
  • Proof of up-to-date PPD skin testing, if previously negative (OR) Proof of positive PPD skin test with the most recent chest x-ray and treatment history.
  • Tetanus, diphtheria, and pertussis (Tdap).
  • Varicella titers, history of varicella or varicella immunization series.
  • Influenza vaccine for the current year.
  • Any other vaccinations as requested.
