The Steadman Philippon Research Institute is known throughout the world for our research into the causes, prevention and treatment of orthopaedic disorders. We are committed to solving orthopaedic problems that limit an individual's ability to maintain an active life.
SPRI offers short-term research assistantship (intern) positions to advance its research mission and to provide a unique opportunity for research participation to future clinicians, scientists, and engineers. An employment duration of 1 year is preferred; however, other opportunities (shorter or longer) may be available. Research assistants support SPRI permanent staff in research tasks including, but not limited to, preparing and conducting experimental lab procedures, conducting literature reviews, compiling research data, preparing presentations, and writing manuscripts for journal publication, book chapters, case reports and surgical technique papers. Co-authorship is attainable for research assistants according to the same policy that applies to all SPRI researchers (ICMJE guidelines). The SPRI departments that offer research assistantship positions include BME, COOR, CRSM, and Imaging. Generally, these positions begin at the start of the academic summer (May/June, annually).
We welcome applications at any time; however, we typically do not actively review candidates except during January-March, annually. An initial evaluation of current applications typically occurs in the January/February timeframe with written, video, or phone follow-up interviews occurring afterward. Initial selections are normally finalized during March. If there are remaining openings, a second evaluation of all applications will be conducted on or after April 1. Note: the Research Assistant role is extremely competitive with only approximately 12 total openings, annually, inclusive of all SPRI research departments. Successful applicants frequently possess at least an undergraduate degree and may already be additionally enrolled in or possess an advanced degree (e.g., medical school, Master's degree, etc.).
