Position Summary

The Engineering Intern provides entry-level support to the Engineering team by assisting with design documentation, drafting support, data organization, and engineering administrative tasks. This role is intended to provide hands-on exposure to engineering, drafting, and document management processes within an aerospace manufacturing environment under close supervision.

The intern will gain practical experience supporting engineers, maintaining engineering records, preparing drawings and documents, and collaborating with cross-functional teams while learning company systems, standards, and regulatory requirements.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Other duties may be assigned based on learning objectives and business needs.

Engineering & Design Support

  • Assist engineers with preparing      routine layouts, detail drawings, assembly drawings, sketches, and      diagrams under supervision
  • Support updates to drawings,      redlines, and engineering documentation
  • Assist with reviewing drawings      and documents for accuracy, completeness, and adherence to standards
  • Learn to interpret basic      engineering schematics, drawings, and specifications

Document & Data Management

  • Assist with filing, organizing,      and maintaining engineering documents (electronic and paper)
  • Support document control      activities, including copying, scanning, indexing, and revision tracking
  • Help maintain engineering      databases and records in accordance with company procedures
  • Retrieve information from files      and systems for authorized users

Administrative & Cross-Functional Support

  • Provide general engineering      administrative support to Engineering, Purchasing, Planning, and other      departments as needed
  • Assist with formatting,      proofreading, and preparing reports, presentations, and documentation
  • Read, respond to, and manage      email communications as directed

Safety, Quality & Professional Expectations

  • Follow all environmental, health,      and safety policies and procedures
  • Report safety concerns or issues      to supervision immediately
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and      professional work area
  • Wear required personal protective      equipment (PPE) when in shop areas
  • Manage assigned tasks and time      effectively with guidance
  • Evaluate own work for accuracy      and compliance with instructions
Requirements

  

Qualifications

Education and/or Experience

  • High school diploma or GED      required
  • Current enrollment in or recent      completion of a technical program, associate degree, or bachelor’s program      in Engineering, Drafting, Design, Manufacturing Technology, or a related      field preferred
  • Prior internship, coursework, or      hands-on technical experience is a plus but not required

Job Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Ability to read and interpret      basic written instructions, procedures, and technical documents
  • Basic understanding of      engineering or drafting concepts (through coursework or training)
  • Strong attention to detail and      organization skills
  • Ability to follow instructions      and ask questions when clarification is needed
  • Effective verbal and written      communication skills
  • Basic computer skills, including      Microsoft Outlook, Word, and Excel
  • Willingness to learn engineering      software and document management systems
  • Professional conduct,      reliability, and a strong desire to learn

Physical Demands

  • Ability to sit for extended      periods (approximately 65–75% of the time)
  • Occasional walking, standing,      bending, kneeling, or reaching to access files or equipment
  • Frequent use of hands and fingers      for computer and office equipment
  • Ability to lift and carry up to      25 lbs occasionally
  • Vision abilities required include      close vision, distance vision, color vision, and ability to adjust focus
