$1.00 - $5.00/hour differential pay for evenings and weekends 

 

Muir Wood Teen Treatment is hiring experienced Lead Behavioral Health Technicians to run shifts in our residential mental health and recovery programs for adolescents in Riverside, CA.


This role combines hands-on work with teens and shift leadership. You'll work directly with residents while overseeing Behavioral Health Technicians, managing daily operations, and ensuring a safe, therapeutic environment. This is an operational leadership role, not a direct management position. Experience working with youth residential treatment is required.

About Us:

Muir Wood helps teens ages 12–17 struggling with mental health and substance use challenges. We provide residential treatment in safe, structured environments where adolescents can heal and build healthy coping skills.  Our team includes therapists, educators, medical staff, and direct care professionals who all work together to support each teen's recovery. 


What You'll Actually Do Every Day:

Daily Responsibilities:

Lead & Coordinate the Shift:

  • Oversee Behavioral Health Technicians and ensure proper coverage throughout your shift
  • Train staff on procedures, documentation, resident charts, and daily protocols
  • Support your team in using behavioral intervention techniques effectively
  • Work with management to troubleshoot operational and staffing needs

Work Directly with Teens:

  • Supervise and support teens through daily routines: meals, chores, hygiene, recreation, and structured activities
  • Transport clients in company vehicles to appointments, activities, and outings (CA drivers license clean driving record required)
  • Manage crisis situations using de-escalation techniques; notify clinical staff immediately of safety concerns
  • Monitor client safety, including one-on-one observation of clients at risk for self-harm, leaving AMA, or eating disorder behaviors
  • Conduct intake procedures, including searching belongings and securing contraband, medications, and prohibited items
  • Provide one-on-one support and counseling for at-risk residents
  • Communicate with therapists and counselors about client behaviors, progress, and concerns

Documentation & Compliance:

  • Conduct weekly checks of documentation, resident charts, personal property records, and medical supplies
  • Maintain resident cash records, personal property lists, and required state licensing documentation
  • Document behaviors and incidents thoroughly and accurately per legal, HIPAA, and licensing requirements
  • Monitor resident rooms, bathrooms, and facility for safety and licensing compliance
  • Maintain professional boundaries and patient confidentiality

Safety & Emergency Response:

  • Respond to crisis situations and notify clinical staff of safety concerns
  • Conduct safety checks of the facility and follow emergency protocols
  • Participate in required training to meet agency and licensure expectations


Requirements

What We're Looking For: 


Must Have:

  • Experience working with adolescents in residential treatment, mental health, or behavioral health settings
  • Shift leadership experience – you've run shifts or coordinated teams in a treatment environment
  • Valid California driver's license with clean driving record (you'll transport teens regularly)
  • Strong people skills – calm under pressure, clear communicator with teens and staff
  • Detail-oriented – you stay on top of documentation and compliance
  • TB clearance, health screen, CPR and First Aid (or willing to obtain upon hire)
  • Reliable and accountable – teens and staff depend on you to show up and run the shift

Preferred (But Not Required):

  • Bachelor's degree in Psychology or related field
  • Knowledge of adolescent development, trauma-informed care, or recovery principles
  • Experience directly supervising employees
