Description
An English teacher's job involves instructing students on literature, writing, grammar, and critical thinking to develop communication skills and literacy They also assess and evaluate student progress, collaborate with other educators, and participate in professional development. The role may also include mentoring other teachers, developing curricula, and leading the English department.
Essential Skills:
- Instruction: Teach literature, composition, grammar, vocabulary, and critical analysis skills.
- Curriculum Development: Create and implement lesson plans and educational materials aligned with state standards.
- Assessment: Evaluate student work, including essays, projects, and tests, and provide timely, constructive feedback.
- Classroom Management: Establish a safe, respectful, and engaging learning environment.
- Student Support: Offer academic support, monitor progress, and adapt teaching methods for diverse learner needs.
- Communication: Maintain regular communication with parents/guardians regarding student progress.
- Collaboration: Participate in department meetings, staff development, and school functions.
- Passion for English education: Inspiring students to explore and learn about literature requires passion and enthusiasm.
Requirements
Applicants must have a Bachelor’s degree in a content area, content area expertise, and strong written and communication skills. Certification is preferred, but not required. The ideal candidate is a Christ follower who has a desire to educate students and partner with families in a distinctively Christian, multi-ethnic environment.
