Job Title: High School Music Teacher (Choral Emphasis)
Department: Fine Arts
Reports To: School Principal
Status: 10-month Contract (Benefits Eligible)
Job Summary
St. Michael the Archangel Catholic High School is seeking a passionate and qualified High School Music Teacher with an emphasis in choral music to join the Fine Arts Department beginning in the 2026–2027 school year. The ideal candidate will cultivate a dynamic choral program, inspire students through musical excellence, and support the mission and values of Catholic education.
Key Responsibilities
- Teach high school music courses with a primary emphasis on choral instruction.
- Develop, rehearse, and direct student choirs, fostering vocal technique, musical literacy, and performance excellence.
- Plan and lead choral performances, concerts, and liturgical music for school Masses and prayer services.
- Select appropriate and diverse choral repertoire aligned with educational goals and Catholic values.
- Integrate faith, service, and Catholic identity into music instruction and performances.
- Prepare students for performances, festivals, competitions, and community or diocesan events, as applicable.
- Create a positive, engaging, and structured learning environment that supports student growth.
- Assess student progress and provide timely feedback in accordance with school grading policies.
- Collaborate with faculty, administration, and Campus Ministry to support school-wide initiatives and events.
- Maintain effective communication with students, parents, and colleagues.
- Participate in faculty meetings, professional development, and school activities.
Qualifications
Education and Certification
- Bachelor’s degree in Music Education, Choral Music, or a related field required; Master’s degree preferred.
- Valid teaching certification or ability to obtain certification in the State of Missouri.
- Demonstrated experience in choral conducting and vocal pedagogy preferred.
- Experience teaching or directing choirs at the high school level.
- Knowledge of adolescent vocal development and choral rehearsal techniques.
- Practicing Catholic preferred; must be supportive of and willing to uphold the teachings and mission of the Catholic Church.
- Strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills.
Work Environment
- Classroom, rehearsal, and performance-based setting within a high school environment.
- Occasional evening and weekend hours for concerts, performances, and liturgical events.
- Collaboration with students, faculty, staff, and the broader school community.
