Reports to: Executive Director Camp Arbolado
POSITION SUMMARY:
This position supports the work of the Y, a leading nonprofit charitable organization committed to strengthening community through youth development, healthy living and social responsibility. Head Cook is responsible for day-to-day operation of the kitchen, giving leadership to the food service kitchen staff, cooks and volunteers. Responsibilities include food service budget, controlling food waste, labor cost, serving warm, healthy food, putting away the food orders FIFO (first in first out). Keeping the Camp Executive Director aware of any safety and health hazard.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
1. Manages the cooks, prep cook, food service staff.
2. Cook meals.
3. Cook and serve healthy, hot food on time.
4. Ensures cooks, prep cooks, food service staff are knowledgeable handling food and maintaining the safe temperature.
5. Keeps the food prep area and kitchen clean and free of debris.
6. Maintain high level of communication with program participants, volunteers and staff and their dietary / food allergies needs.
7. Maintains proper records and tracks timecards, daily temperature logbook.
8. Maintain high member satisfaction ratings with the quality of food service.
9. Assures compliance with federal, state, county and local regulations as they relate to food service areas.
10. Personally, represent the YMCA “s Mission and values in our camp and community.
11. Performs other duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS:
1. High School degree preferred or equivalent.
2. Minimum of 1 years’ experience in Intuitional/ Camp Food Service and Cooking.
3. Current Certifications (Serve Safe)
4. Experience in supervising creating & menu planning.
5. Strong customer service and relationship building skills.
6. Excellent problem-solving skills and customer service
7. Within 30 days of hire, completion of Child Abuse Prevention, working with Program Volunteers, CPR, First Aid, AED, and Blood borne Pathogen’s training.
8. Ability to relate effectively to diverse groups of people from all social and economical segments of the camp community.
