Position Summary


This is a unique opportunity to build and lead a new national practice within a well-established specialty tax firm. The Director of Sales Tax Recovery will play a critical role in KBKG’s diversification strategy and long-term growth, with meaningful visibility, autonomy, and career upside.  KBKG is launching a Sales & Use Tax Recovery practice as a foundational platform for long-term growth and diversification. The Director of Sales Tax Recovery will be responsible for building, executing, and scaling this practice. This role owns both delivery and pipeline development, working closely with Account Directors, CPAs, and leadership to create a repeatable, profitable service line.


Key Responsibilities

  • Lead and deliver sales & use tax recovery engagements with a focus on quality, compliance, and client experience.
  • Build and standardize methodologies, SOPs, templates, and quality control processes.
  • Partner with Account Directors to identify opportunities, support free analyses, and close engagements.
  • Own pipeline management, forecasting, and reporting in Salesforce.
  • Manage delivery capacity and determine when temporary third-party resources are required.
  • Develop the roadmap to fully internalize delivery within 6–12 months.
  • Leverage technology and automation to increase efficiency and scale.
  • Support future growth initiatives including audit defense, compliance, and acquisitions.
  • Hire, mentor, and develop analysts or support staff as the practice grows.
  • Uphold and reinforce KBKG’s core values in all client and internal interactions.


Requirements

Qualifications

  • CPA preferred; significant sales & use tax or SALT experience required.
  • 4 year degree in Accounting or similar studies.
  • 10+ years of progressive tax practice experience (public accounting, consulting, or industry).
  • Demonstrated experience leading complex tax engagements.
  • Strong commercial mindset with comfort in client-facing sales and presentations.
  • Experience working with CPAs and CPA referral channels strongly preferred.
  • Ability to build processes from the ground up in a growth environment.
  • Salesforce or CRM pipeline management experience preferred.
  • Strong communication, leadership, and organizational skills.

Compensation & Benefits


Competitive compensation commensurate with experience. Target total compensation range: $175,000–$225,000 (salary plus benefits), with performance-based incentives tied to revenue and practice growth. Comprehensive benefits package included.

Salary Description
