For Nearly 80 years, Sandy Cove Ministries has been a place where millions of people have connected with God and each other. 

We offer year-around signature programs designed to uplift and strengthen individuals and families, including summer vacation packages and a day camp for kids. We also contract with ministries and organizations, helping them create their own impactful retreats and events on our property. 

All of this happens at our breathtaking location on the headwaters of Chesapeake Bay in North East, Maryland. With 150 guest rooms in our lodge and 220 beautiful acres, we offer guests authentic hospitality and the rest and renewal they crave. 

Position Summary

The Summer Staff Experience & Community Life Coordinator is responsible for cultivating a Jesus-centered, supportive, and well-structured summer staff experience at Sandy Cove Ministries. This individual (or couple) provides relational leadership to summer staff—particularly those living on-grounds—by building community, offering spiritual encouragement, and ensuring expectations are upheld.

Working alongside a small summer staff leadership team, this role oversees the daily rhythm of summer staff life, facilitates weekly formation gatherings (The LINK), and serves as a trusted presence for guidance, accountability, and care. The Coordinator(s) plays a key role in helping summer staff grow personally, spiritually, in a fun environment while contributing to a healthy and mission-aligned summer culture.

Role Qualifications:

  • Personal relationship with Jesus Christ 
  • Must be committed to the mission of Sandy Cove Ministries 
  • Prior program and/or event coordination experience 
  • Must enjoy working with youth and young adults 
  • Must be at least 23 years of age or older 
  • Must live on campus/ Sandy Cove property between Memorial Day to Labor Day 

Position Responsibilities:

  • (If needed) learn the culture of Sandy Cove and the summer program schedule 
  • Weekly team meeting with the Director of Human Resources.
  • Participates in leading and facilitating the all-summer staff orientation in June 
  • Is available or readily contacted for staff in the event of a crisis 
  • Performs any other reasonable request as assigned. 

Key Responsibilities

Summer Staff Care & Experience

  • Serve as the primary relational leader for summer staff, fostering a welcoming, safe, and Christ-centered community.
  • Provide a warm welcome and assist on-site employees with moving in at the start of summer and checking out of on-site living at the end of summer. 
  • Build meaningful relationships with summer staff through regular presence, availability, and intentional connection.
  • Support summer staff—especially those living on-grounds—as they navigate work responsibilities, community living, and spiritual growth. This can also include helping employees seek medical care off property when needed (i.e.-urgent care visits).
  • Create an environment where summer staff feel known, valued, and supported while being challenged to grow.

Leadership & Team Oversight

  • Lead and collaborate with a small team of summer staff leaders who together care for the broader summer staff population.
  • Collaborate with HR Director to create work schedules for Jr. Summer Staff Leaders
  • Provide coaching, encouragement, and direction to leader team members to ensure consistent support and accountability.
  • Model servant leadership, emotional intelligence, and strong communication skills.
  • Assist in identifying and addressing concerns related to staff morale, conflict, or well-being.

Spiritual Formation & Programming

  • Plan, coordinate, and execute a weekly summer staff meeting and worship gathering called The LINK.
  • Collaborate with speakers, worship leaders, and staff to create engaging, spiritually meaningful experiences.
  • Inspire and encourage summer staff to deepen their relationship with God through bible studies, worship, prayer, and discussion.
  • Integrate Sandy Cove’s mission and values into staff programming and daily interactions.

On-Grounds Living & Accountability

  • Provide oversight and accountability for summer staff living on grounds.
  • Enforce community standards and expectations, including curfew, dorm cleanliness, and shared-living guidelines.
  • Conduct or coordinate routine dorm checks and follow up as needed.
  • Address rule of violations with clarity, consistency, grace, and appropriate consequences.
  • Partner with HR or leadership when disciplinary issues arise.

Communication & Collaboration

  • Serve as a liaison between summer staff, leadership, and HR regarding staff life matters.
  • Participate in planning meetings and contribute to overall summer program success.

Qualifications & Skills

  • A vibrant, growing Christian faith with a desire to disciple and encourage young adults.
  • Highly relational with strong interpersonal and pastoral care skills.
  • Proven ability to lead, coach, and support a small leadership team.
  • Experience working with youth, young adults, camps, ministries, or retreat environments preferred.
  • Comfortable balancing warmth and encouragement with clear boundaries and accountability.
  • Strong organizational and communication skills.
  • Ability to handle sensitive situations with discretion, wisdom, and maturity.
  • Willingness to live on-site or maintain a strong on-ground presence during the summer season.

Compensation

$872/week - $1,026 bi-weekly + room & board.
