Summary:
This position is the lead for all technical aspects of the development lab. This position is also responsible for leading projects and performing assignments that improve quality, reduce cost, and increase efficiency and repeatability of all lab areas. This position will provide hands-on support of all lab areas to achieve goals through continuous improvement, process monitoring, troubleshooting, training, documentation, and adherence to established procedures. In addition, the development lab engineer will be the primary source for establishing, documenting all health and environmental concerns to ensure that all safety concerns for the development lab are met.
Essential Duties:
- Perform or lead process/equipment investigations to determine root cause analyses as needed and document findings.
- Perform or lead continuous improvement efforts related to cost reduction, quality improvements and productivity using all appropriate tools. (i.e. control charts for baseline maintenance).
- Establish SOP’s documentation for all lab process areas.
- Evaluate each lab area to determine if process hazard analyses (PHA) need to be performed. If necessary, lead/perform PHA. Work with Cormetech’s EH&S group.
- Acquire knowledge of all lab areas in order to provide technical guidance to lab technicians and maintenance associates in the form of troubleshooting and training.
- Hands-on engineering support for all processes.
- Startup of new equipment and processes within the development lab. Perform Gage R&R studies, if necessary. Gatekeeper of all spare parts.
- Liaison with plant maintenance for any required repairs and follow up to ensure timely completion.
- Support the development of new process characterization tools. Lead technical design & qualification of appropriate tools.
- Operate Rheometer for routine sample analysis and lead development of improved testing / analysis.

Required Skills and Knowledge:
- Bachelor’s degree in Chemical or Materials Engineering, Chemistry or equivalent field
- Strong background in chemistry is required
- Experience with MS office products, Excel with data analysis
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
- Ability to effectively work independently or on a team
- Good collaboration skills
- Ability to teach others effectively
- Strong interest in research and development work
