Are you passionate about improving habitat for important pollinator species? Does learning about native plants and their relationships with other organisms excite you? Do you enjoy sharing your knowledge of the natural world with others? If so, then this is the internship for you! This position is in partnership with the Intermountain Bird Observatory and will learn about and help execute hummingbird habitat restoration projects and assist with hummingbird outreach events including our oh-so-fun hummingbird banding events held in the summer. You'll even get to hold one of those precious little birds!
Essential Functions of the Job
· Assist staff on restoration projects, which may include seedling planting, seed collection, and noxious weed pulling among others.
· Help facilitate outreach programs including Hummingbird Banding Events.
· Contribute content for social media posts.
· Assist and/or lead volunteer events and projects.
· Assist with plant phenology tracking throughout the season.
· Other duties as assigned.
Education and Experience Requirements
· Coursework in environmental science, environmental studies, natural resource management, or related fields are preferred.
· Comfortable performing physical work in an outdoor setting.
· Excellent science communication skills.
· Knowledge of how ecosystems function and their threats.
· Passion for conservation education.
Schedule and Other Information:
· Flexible start and end dates to correspond with college summer break.
· 20 hours per week for up to 13 weeks, generally between the hours of 8am-5pm. Some weekends, evenings or early mornings may be required
