VP of Accounting
Description

This position oversees the broader accounting function, providing mentorship and direction to a high performing team that includes a Controller, Accounting Staff, and Accounts Payable.

The VP of Accounting will also ensure accurate financial records through oversight of general ledger accounts, reconciliations, financial reports, and compliance with relevant regulations, all while adhering to Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP). Key Performance Expectations:

  • Strategic Leadership: Direct the daily operations of the accounting department, ensuring all financial reporting is accurate, timely, and compliant.
  • Team Management: Lead, mentor, and develop the Controller and accounting support staff. Foster a culture of accountability, professional growth, and precision.
  • Financial Oversight: Manage the month-end and year-end closing processes, ensuring proper classification and posting of transactions, and performing regular account reconciliations.
  • Audit & Compliance: Collaborate with external auditors to facilitate smooth audit processes and address any identified issues. Ensure that requested schedules and reports are prepared in a timely manner.
  • Manage and maintain effective workflow handoffs between departments
  • Control and verify checks and reconciliations of all cash accounts; ensure that all accounting entries are properly recorded.
  • Oversee the accounts payable and receivable processes, including invoice review, payment processing, and collections.
  • Ensure adherence and remain current of all applicable accounting standards, credit union regulations, and tax laws, which may affect accounting functions.
  • Implement and maintain robust internal controls to safeguard credit union assets and mitigate financial risks.
  • Manage the preparation and submission of required regulator, partner, and other internal and external reports
  • Assist or back-up other staff and the functions of the Accounting Team, as necessary.
  • Have zero internal/external audit adjustments
  • Maintain current operating procedures for areas of responsibility
  • Perform other duties, as assigned
Requirements
  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting or finance
  • 8 -10+ years of progressive accounting experience, with at least 5 years in a leadership role within a Credit Union, Bank or other Financial Institution.
  • Strong understanding of GAAP and credit union regulations
  • Proficiency in accounting software and Microsoft Office Suite
  • Strong leadership and communication abilities to effectively manage a team.
  • Demonstrated ability to be fiscally responsible.

Preferred Experience and Education

  • CPA / MBA
  • Bilingual a plus
Salary Description
$124,072 - $132,392 annual DOE
