Scope:
The PCB CAM Operator is responsible for translating and transforming customer-supplied design data into accurate, panelized manufacturing tools required for printed circuit board (PCB) production. This role serves as a critical link between engineering design and manufacturing execution, ensuring all data is optimized for production efficiency, quality, and compliance with design for manufacturability (DFM) standards. The ideal candidate will demonstrate strong technical aptitude, attention to detail, and the ability to manage multiple priorities within a fast-paced, high-technology manufacturing environment.
Essential Job Function:
- Perform advanced CAM tooling activities, including in-depth quality control (Q/C) review, rout programming, and coordination of outsourced tooling tasks, ensuring accuracy and alignment with internal standards and customer requirements.
- Analyze customer-supplied design data against Design for Manufacturability (DFM) guidelines, identifying complex issues and providing detailed, technically sound recommendations to optimize production outcomes.
- Lead resolution of data-related challenges by troubleshooting design inconsistencies, interpreting complex requirements, and implementing effective data corrections beyond standard edits.
- Panelize PCB designs and generate manufacturing outputs for a range of production systems, ensuring optimal material utilization, process efficiency, and adherence to fabrication constraints.
- Develop and optimize NC (Numerical Control) programs for drilling, routing, scoring, milling, and beveling operations, ensuring precision and efficiency in manufacturing execution.
- Utilize advanced CAM system capabilities to streamline data preparation processes, improve accuracy, and reduce manual rework where possible.
- Serve as a technical point of contact for internal teams, customers, and external partners, effectively communicating complex data issues and aligning design intent with manufacturing capabilities.
- Provide primary CAM support for advanced and high-complexity PCB designs, acting as an escalation point for challenging or non-standard jobs.
- Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives by supporting process optimization, evaluating workflow efficiencies, and assisting in the development and testing of scripts or system enhancements.
- Support knowledge sharing and team development by assisting with training, mentoring, and promoting best practices across CAM operations.
Essential Qualifications:
- CAM Operator I – PCB manufacturing experience preferred; equivalent technical training or relevant experience will be considered.
- Exposure to CAM automation, scripting, or advanced system functionality is a plus.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with a high level of attention to detail and accuracy.
- Ability to manage multiple tasks and meet deadlines in a production-driven environment.
- Experience supporting process improvements, workflow optimization, or CAM system enhancements preferred.
- Solid understanding of Gerber, ODB++, IPC standards, and other PCB data formats and specifications.
- Strong working knowledge of PCB fabrication processes, including drilling, routing, imaging, and electrical test requirements.
- Must be available to work overtime, weekends, and holidays as required to support production demands.
Physical Requirements:
- While performing the duties of this job, the employee is occasionally required to stand, walk, climb stairs, and reach with both hands and arms. The employee is regularly required to talk or hear and to perform repetitive motions. The employee is frequently required to sit.
- Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, color vision, and the ability to adjust focus. These vision requirements are necessary to complete the keyboarding, mousing, filing, and copying functions of the job
