We are seeking a Licensed Vocational Nurse (LVN) who thrives in a collaborative behavioral health setting and is passionate about supporting client stability, safety, and recovery.


POSITION SUMMARY:

The LVN at CPI is responsible for providing advanced indirect and direct client care in a psychiatric and behavioral health setting. This role includes overseeing client well-being, administering medications, monitoring vital signs, supporting the clinical team, coordinating with pharmacy and medical staff, and ensuring compliance with facility, California, and Joint Commission standards.

The LVN also performs selected clerical, environmental, and administrative duties in support of client care.


 

Key Responsibilities

Clinical & Client Care

  • Administer prescribed medications and monitor for effectiveness and side effects 
  • Perform and document vital signs and health assessments 
  • Observe and report changes in client condition to the appropriate medical staff 
  • Provide health education and reinforce treatment plans 
  • Respond to medical and psychiatric emergencies within the scope of practice 

Coordination & Compliance

  • Communicate with prescribing providers, pharmacies, and outside medical professionals 
  • Maintain accurate and timely documentation in the electronic health record 
  • Ensure medication storage, logging, and administration meet regulatory standards 
  • Support adherence to California Department of Health Care Services (DHCS) and Joint Commission standards 
  • Participate in audits and quality assurance initiatives
     

Team Collaboration

  • Work closely with therapists, case managers, direct care staff, and leadership 
  • Provide guidance to direct care staff regarding medical concerns 
  • Participate in interdisciplinary treatment team meetings 

Administrative Support

  • Maintain medication inventory and order supplies 
  • Complete incident reports and required documentation 
  • Support overall facility organization and infection control protocols

Pay: $30-36 an hour, dependent on experience

Requirements
  •  Active, unrestricted California LVN license 
  • Minimum 1 year of nursing experience (psychiatric or behavioral health preferred) 
  • Knowledge of psychotropic medications and co-occurring disorders preferred 
  • Health screening with negative TB test result
  • Ability to pass Livescan
  • Valid California driver’s license and clean driving record (if transporting clients). 
  • Current CPR/First Aid certification 
  • Strong documentation and communication skills 
  • Ability to work in a structured residential treatment environment 
  • Knowledge of psychiatric disorders, psychotropic medications, and behavioral health standards. 
  • Competent in EMR documentation and basic computer programs (MS Word, Excel). 
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills. 
  • Ability to work independently, under pressure, and in unstructured environments. 
  • Ability to multitask, prioritize, and work collaboratively in a team setting.
