Mountain Recreation is seeking motivated and enthusiastic individuals to join our Outdoor Recreation team as a Program Instructor in Training (Mountain Bike Instructor). This entry-level role supports Lead Instructors in delivering youth mountain biking programs and day camp experiences, assisting with skill development, trail safety education, bike handling fundamentals, and fostering a positive, supportive learning environment. Ideal candidates are passionate about mountain biking, enjoy working with youth, and are eager to develop instructional and leadership skills while providing high-quality outdoor recreation experiences.

POSITION DETAILS
Job Title: Outdoor Recreation Program Instructor in Training – Specialty Camps (Mountain Bike)
Location: Eagle Pool & Ice Rink (Eagle, CO)
Employment Type: Temporary Seasonal • April – September
FLSA Status: Non-Exempt (Overtime Eligible)
Schedule: Part-Time; may include mornings, evenings, weekends and holidays as needed
Supervision Required: Works under the general guidance and direction of the Outdoor Recreation Supervisor and Coordinator.
Supervision Exercised: May directly supervise campers during program times
Work Environment and Physical Demands: Work is performed primarily outdoors on trails and varied terrain, sometimes in inclement weather and changing mountain conditions. The role requires sustained mental focus and continuous visual supervision of participants in an active outdoor setting. Physical demands include frequent riding, walking on uneven surfaces, standing for extended periods, bending, kneeling, and the ability to lift and carry bikes or equipment up to 50 pounds unassisted. This position requires a high level of situational awareness, sound judgment, and constant attention to participant safety while managing dynamic trail environments and diverse skill levels.

Salary: $16.28 – $20.34/hour; DOE. Staff in this position are eligible for a $1/hour incentive for Spanish/English bilingual skills upon passing a language competency test. Seasonal employees in good standing may also qualify for an end-of-season bonus of up to $200.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
General Statement of Duties: Support Mountain Bike camps for youth by assisting Lead and Assistant Program Instructors with skill instruction, participant supervision, and trail safety, while also supporting other outdoor recreation programs as needed to help ensure safe, engaging, and high-quality experiences for the community.
Examples of Duties:
- Assist the Lead and Assistant Program Instructors in facilitating Mountain Bike camps for 12–15 youth, helping create an engaging, educational, and safe experience.
- Support gear checks, reinforce foundational riding skills and trail etiquette, and help maintain group safety and cohesion.
- Greet and communicate professionally with families during check-in and check-out.
- Follow weekly program plans, schedules, rosters, and risk management procedures.
- Support instruction of outdoor recreation skills, team-building activities, and positive behavior management strategies.
- May transport participants to field sites in a district vehicle if age 18 or older and meeting driving requirements.
- Assist with risk management practices and respond appropriately in emergency situations.
- Work alongside Lead Instructors and fellow Instructors in Training to build skills and instructional confidence.
- Communicate equipment, facility, and supply needs to program leadership and help maintain safe, organized program spaces.
- Deliver high-quality customer service to participants, families, partners, and community members.
- Support additional outdoor activities such as rock climbing, stand-up paddleboarding, nature-based programming, and stewardship projects.
- Assist with program setup, takedown, special events, mandatory reporting responsibilities
- Perform other duties as assigned

Requirements:
Education and experience:
- Must be at least 14 years of age or older; AND
- High school graduate or equivalent, or currently attending high school; AND
- Previous experience working or volunteering with children/youth; OR
- Any satisfactory combination of experience and education that demonstrates the knowledge, skills, and ability to perform the above-described duties.
- Spanish language proficiency and cultural literacy (preferred).
Certifications:
- Current CPR/First Aid/AED certification (required).
