The Mechanical Engineering Manager is a leadership role responsible for developing an industry-leading opto-mechanical engineering expertise at Optikos. The ME Manager will lead the mechanical engineering team, which is responsible for developing new, cutting-edge products for our customers and the Optikos product line. The role may encompass all aspects of team leadership: assigning and reviewing work output, hiring and terminations, professional training and development, and more.
Roles and Responsibilities:
- A successful candidate has a history of precision mechanical system development: a proven track record of design, analysis, and product realization.
- Manage day-to-day activities of mechanical engineer direct reports, including work assignments, timesheet reviews, technical work reviews, and general administrative tasks.
- Lead hiring of all levels of mechanical engineers.
- Support the ME team's professional development, including assigning training, conducting annual reviews and goal-setting, and providing individual mentoring. Provide feedback and initiate improvement plans and/or terminations as required.
- Support continued growth of mechanical engineering capabilities in all aspects of opto-mechanical design, precision mechanism design, analysis capabilities, etc.
- Confidently engage customers on new opportunities, evaluate customer needs, and estimate program requirements. (labor and material resources)
- Demonstrate expertise in the field of Mechanical Engineering: evidencing a breadth and depth of knowledge sufficient to confidently address issues and communicate with clarity and insight. Provide expert review on existing projects.
Skills and Requirements:
- Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering; Graduate Degree preferred
- Highly motivated individual with a proven track record (15+ years) of innovative work
- Project management is a plus, but this position emphasizes technical contribution
- Experience with FEA; primarily static, modal, and thermal
- Expert in the use of SolidWorks or similar CAD software
- Enjoys hands-on work. It is routine to participate in the build and test of your designs.
- Ability to adjust readily to change and adapt as needed
- Eager to tackle the most challenging mechanical design problems in the company
- A proven leader – technical lead, project lead, working directly with customers
