Description

The MLS Next Pro Assistant Athletic Trainer supports the day-to-day athletic training operations for the MLS NEXT Pro team. This role assists in providing comprehensive sports medicine services, including injury prevention, evaluation, treatment, rehabilitation, and return-to-play support for players. The Assistant Athletic Trainer works closely with the MLS Next Pro & Academy Athletic Training Coordinator, Technical Staff, and medical providers to ensure high standards of player care and compliance with league medical policies. 


 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Assist the MLS Next Pro & Academy Athletic Training Coordinator in managing the health care of players, including injury prevention, emergency care, on-site evaluations, treatment, rehabilitation, and medical referrals. 
  • Administer therapeutic modalities and assist with the implementation of rehabilitation and injury prevention programs. 
  • Support the maintenance of complete, accurate, and current player medical records within the League-provided electronic medical record system. 
  • Assist with coordinating medical care with team physicians, physical therapists, specialists, and external medical providers as directed. 
  • Help ensure compliance with all League medical policies, protocols, and reporting requirements. 
  • Assist in maintaining a safe, clean, organized, and fully stocked athletic training room and clinic space. 
  • Order, receive, and inventory medical supplies and clinical equipment under the direction of the Head Athletic Trainer. 
  • Comply with OSHA standards, including bloodborne pathogen protocols. 
  • Provide medical coverage for training sessions, matches, and team travel as required. 
  • Provide medical assistance to other club teams as needed. 
  • Communicate player health updates to the Head Athletic Trainer and Technical Staff as appropriate. 
  • Perform other duties as assigned or required. 


Requirements
  • Bachelor’s degree required. 
  • Master’s degree in a health-related field preferred. 
  • Minimum of one (1) to three (3) years of experience in sports medicine (internship or professional experience considered). 
  • Soccer-specific medical experience preferred; experience in other professional or collegiate sports may be considered. 
  • Strong foundational knowledge of injury management, rehabilitation, and sports medicine best practices. 
  • Enthusiastic, energetic, and collaborative team player. 
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills. 
  • Strong organizational skills with attention to detail and ability to prioritize and multitask. 
  • Knowledge of MLS, MLS NEXT Pro, and international soccer preferred. 
  • Bilingual (English and Spanish) fluency preferred. 
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint). 
  • Ability to work extended hours, including evenings, weekends, and holidays as required

 

Licenses and Certifications 

  • NATABOC (or CATA) Certified Athletic Trainer. 
  • In good standing with NATABOC and an active member of NATA (or CATA). 
  • Licensed to practice athletic training in the State of Florida. 
  • Current professional CPR/AED certification. 
  • Personal professional liability insurance.
