Girl Scouts of Northern New Jersey is looking for energetic, fun, organized, and caring staff to provide memorable experiences to girls in a safe and engaging Summer Camp environment!
Lake Rickabear Day Camp sits on 332 acres of land including a beautiful 40-acre, spring-fed lake, perfect for swimming, pedal boating, paddle boarding, and row boating.
This position is responsible to further the mission of camp through assisting in the development and delivery of non-competitive slingshot skills that are safe, fun, and appropriate to campers’ ages and abilities, and ensuring safety and wellbeing of campers following New Jersey Department of Health and Youth Camp Services and Girl Scouts of USA. They are responsible for the supervision and care of campers during designated/specific activities and facilitating delivery of programs within a unit/small group.

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
- Obtain certification in challenge course and zip line with The Adventure Guild and archery with USA Archery to be obtained via training and certification by camp prior to camp season.
- Schedule and develop age-appropriate programs and activities in camp through promotion and supervision of slingshot activities and games.
- Maintain strict safety procedures set forth by GSNNJ.
- Attend pre-camp training and conduct training to staff on slingshot range.
- Maintain communication with Unit Leaders, Counselors, and Junior Counselors regarding camper behavior and supervision.
- Instruct and support a group of up to 20 girls, providing sling shot activities.
- Plan, coordinate, and supervise special programs for Special Interest Day.
- Keep a supply of appropriate rainy day activity resources available.
- Assist in planning and leading games and campfire program for all 3 overnights until 9:30 pm.
- Work with challenge course specialist to assist at challenge course and zip line areas.
- Maintain cleanliness, organization, and safety of slingshot range.
- Conduct safety check of equipment and safety procedures – make and/or report needed repairs and keep daily records of such.
- Maintain files of ideas and directions of slingshot programs.
- Write and submit a seasonal report and evaluation of the season's program activities.
- Promote high camper and staff morale.
- Document and diligently report any health and welfare concerns to the Camp Health Supervisor.
- Must be able to stay and sleep over for at least one out of the three overnights.
- Must be able to stay at camp until the end of campfire for the overnights not staying overnight for.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Daily Rate: $123 (new staff) - $128 per day (returning staff). This is based on a 7.5 hour work day, which translates to $16.40 - $17.07 per hour respectively.
- Must be 18+ years of age
- Certification in challenge course and zip line with The Adventure Guild and archery with USA Archery to be obtained via training and certification by camp prior to camp season.
- Desire and ability to supervise, lead, and positively manage campers and work with other staff in a cooperative, team-oriented camp atmosphere
- Ability to teach skills at slingshot course to campers of all ages and staff in a safe, inclusive, creative, and fun way.
- Ability to use sound judgement surrounding safety procedures.
- Must be attentive and timely.
- Regularly speak, read, write, interpret, and respond to words in the English language.
- Must be able to communicate well with other staff and community partners.
- First Aid and CPR certified or willingness to obtain prior to camp beginning.
Physical Requirements
- Walking, standing, bending, stooping, reaching and ability to lift and move up to 30 pounds.
- Daily exposure to seasonal weather conditions.
- Must be able to work in a rustic camp environment with limited access to electricity, cell phone service and internet.
