The Accounting Specialist is responsible for executing daily accounting functions, supporting month-end and year-end close processes, and maintaining accurate financial records in alignment with company policies and standards. This role partners closely with cross-functional teams to streamline processes, improve efficiencies, and strengthen financial reporting. Working collaboratively within the accounting department, the Accounting Specialist contributes to achieving team goals while helping drive organizational performance and results.


RESPONSIBILITIES:

Accounts Payable

  • Prepare and perform weekly check runs, ACH and Credit Card payments.
  • Reconcile accounts payable transactions and resolve discrepancies.
  • Respond to vendor inquiries and maintain positive vendor relationships.
  • Collaborate with internal departments and vendors to resolve invoice issues.
  • Support internal departments with invoice and payment status inquiries. 

Sales Tax/Other Taxes

  • Ensure compliance with company policies and applicable tax regulations (e.g., sales/use tax/property tax).
  • Calculate monthly/quarterly/annual tax liabilities utilizing internal data, verifying and confirming expenses are within expectations for the Company's operations. 
  • Communicate with various state/city tax departments to ensure payments are applied and Company is in good standing.
  • Stay apprised to relevant tax changes in the jurisdictions we do business and address changes for monthly compliance. 

Fixed Assets

  • Review and code capital expenditures to construction-in-progress (CIP) accounts, ensuring accurate classification and alignment with capitalization policies.
  • Process asset additions, transfers, and disposals in the fixed asset system (NetSuite FAM) on an ongoing basis, maintaining up-to-date and accurate asset records.
  • Reconcile fixed asset subledger to the general ledger regularly to identify discrepancies, investigate variances, and ensure integrity of asset data.

General

  • Conduct accounting research using US GAAP and SEC guidelines to support conclusions on financial transactions and ensure proper disclosures and reporting.
  • Prepare accurate and well-supported workpapers, reconciliations, and journal entries for monthly and quarterly close activities.
  • Take initiative in team discussions, offering informed perspectives while considering input from others, and take ownership of responsibilities with minimal supervision.
  • Contribute to the preparation and review of internal and external financial statements and disclosures.
  • Conduct accounting research using US GAAP and SEC guidelines to support conclusions on financial transactions and ensure proper disclosures and reporting.


Requirements
  • AAS in Accounting, preferred
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • High attention to detail, ensure accuracy in completion of work.  
  • Experience working with NetSuite. 
  • Ability to communicate and build relationships throughout the organization.
  • Preferably 3-5 years' experience in corporate accounting, accounts payable, or another related department. 
  • Demonstrated knowledge of accounting processes and cycles.
  • Ability to plan and prioritize work efficiently while upholding excellent quality standards.
  • Professional demeanor and attire in accordance with company policy.
  • Occasional travel for team meetings to our business office in The Dalles, OR, required. (10%)


Salary Description
Starting @ $25 per hr, dependent upon experience
