Job Summary

The James River College Admissions Counselor is focused on recruiting and admitting students to James River College. They, along with the James River College Recruitment Coordinator, will be responsible for following up with potential students, applicants, and accepted students, as well as fulfilling all other duties assigned by the James River College Director. They must know the proper terminology for promoting James River College with enthusiasm and accuracy, and they must embody the heart behind all we do and display the culture of James River College in the words they say, the things they do, and the way they present themselves.

  

Please note: This position is contingent upon final enrollment numbers. Applications will be reviewed and interviews may be conducted while enrollment is being finalized.


Essential Responsibilities & Duties

Registration Checklist

  • Understand and facilitate the completion of returning and incoming students’ registration checklists.
  • Initiate regular communication with Evangel’s team to ensure the registration checklist is up-to-date and functioning efficiently and effectively.
  • Collect relevant data to create realistic goals and benchmarks for upcoming years.
  • Collaborate with the College Development Director to ensure students are enrolled in the correct classes for the upcoming semester.
  • Stay informed on all updates and information concerning institutional scholarships to share the most relevant and updated information with interested and returning students.
  • Walk students through their award letters and answer questions about institutional aid and federal aid.
  • Keep accurate records of all scholarships awarded to students to ensure proper stewardship of James River College’s Resources.
  • Double check students’ bills to ensure they are correct before they are sent to the student and their family.
  • Create enrollment procedures and communication flows that move students through the admissions process quickly and effectively.
  • Research industry trends and procedures to improve James River College’s current admissions systems.

Relationship Management

  • Perform regular and intentional communication with students that are interested in James River College.
  • Create and meet weekly, monthly, and yearly goals for moving students through the admissions process.
  • Keep a thorough record of contact with students in Salesforce.
  • Call and email parents and counselors of applicants to move them through the admissions process.
  • Build and manage teams that facilitate and track regular calls to applicants and prospective students to build relationships and help them through the admissions process.
  • Create and facilitate text and email campaigns to interested and prospective students about their next steps in the admissions process.
  • Collect relevant data to create realistic goals and benchmarks for upcoming years.

Recruitment

  • Lead and facilitate trips to promote James River College.
  • Build teams that enjoy recruiting and connecting with students.
  • Connect with students about the opportunities available to them at James River College.
  • Create and implement text campaigns promptly to create connections with students that apply to James River College.
  • Organize and collect all applications to ensure they are stored safely and correctly.
  • Oversee the safety, professionality, and quality of the recruitment team with the Recruitment Coordinator.
  • Make necessary updates to the James River College website when information about James River College is changed, added, or edited with approval from the James River College Director.

Visits

  • Own the responsibility of connecting with students and families about their next steps in the admissions process.
  • Help the Recruitment Coordinator organize and facilitate all aspects of planning and communication regarding College Visits.
  • Build and lead strong teams with the Recruitment Coordinator that host prospective students and their families with excellence and professionalism on College Visits.
  • Plan and select College Visit dates with the Recruitment Coordinator at the beginning of each semester and post them on the website with the approval of the James River College Director.
Requirements
  • At least an associate’s degree is required.
  • Ability to work independently and make decisions appropriate to the position. 
  • PC skills including Microsoft Office Suite (i.e., Excel, Outlook, Publisher, Word, Planner, and Teams)
  • A heart to see James River Church and James River College grow.
  • Fully embrace the mission and core values of James River Church and James River College.
  • Administrative or office experience 

Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities

  • Ability and passion to assist college students.
  • Knowledge of modern office methods and procedures, telephone techniques, and office equipment, as well as English usage, spelling, grammar, and punctuation.
  • Ability to get along well with others and handle confidential matters.
  • Ability to communicate effectively and professionally orally and in writing.
  • PC skills including spreadsheet, database query, and word processing.
  • Must be punctual, pleasant, and tactful with professional appearance and conduct.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with supervising personnel, co-workers, civic organizations, business professionals, and the general public.
  • Exhibit good judgment, honesty, integrity, responsibility, and punctuality through the utilization of professional work standards.
  • Must have strong analytical skills.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment while meeting critical deadlines.
