Experience:

  • Assist the orthodontist during patient treatments, including but not limited to placing and removing braces, taking impressions, adjusting wires, and applying and removing elastics and other orthodontic appliances. 
  • Ensure the patient is comfortable during procedures and respond to patient needs as necessary. 
  • Prepare patients for orthodontic treatments, explaining procedures and addressing any concerns. 
  • Ensure that patients are properly positioned and that instruments and materials are within reach to assist the orthodontist efficiently. 
  • Prepare and sterilize instruments, equipment, and materials used for treatments, ensuring compliance with infection control protocols. 
  • Maintain clinical areas, ensuring they are clean, organized, and well-stocked with necessary supplies. 
  • Take diagnostic X-rays, panoramic images, or digital scans as required for treatment planning. 
  • Assist in maintaining accurate patient records by updating and recording treatment progress, notes, and X-ray results in the practice management system (EHR/PMS). 
  • Assist with the fitting, adjustment, and removal of orthodontic appliances such as retainers, expanders, and braces. 
  • Provide post-treatment instructions to patients for retainer care and the importance of regular follow-up visits. 
Requirements
  • High school diploma or equivalent required; completion of an accredited orthodontic assisting program preferred. 
  • X-ray certification 
  • Strong manual dexterity and attention to detail. 
  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to interact with patients, families, and the orthodontic team. 
  • Ability to maintain patient confidentiality and adhere to HIPAA regulations.
