Seasonal Interpreters primary purpose is to initiate interactions with zoo visitors through focused activities such as scheduled talks at a variety of animal habitats, give animal encounter presentations, and lead education private tours. Animal Encounter presentations include Meet and Greets for zoo guests and private groups. Interpreters also have other responsibilities as assigned.
Hours: Seasonal Interpreter hours are typically 9:30a – 4:30p, with working early and night programs/events throughout the week. Interpreters must be willing to work weekend days and holidays.
The goal is to tell the zoos and our animals' stories while increasing guest knowledge of wildlife and conservation.
Duties:
Interpreters will work individually and as part of a team to deliver fun educational presentations and activities throughout the Akron Zoo. The goal is to tell the zoos and our animals' stories while increasing their knowledge of wildlife and conservation. Duties include initiating interactions with zoo visitors through focused activities such as scheduled talks at a variety of animal habitats, animal encounter presentations and conducting private tours and up close paid experiences. Animal Encounter presentations include Meet and Greets for zoo guests and private groups. Interpreters are also responsible for preparing guest interactive areas at the Zoo. Interpreters will also work with Zoo Adult and teen Volunteers and teen throughout the day and help volunteers as needed.

Qualifications:
- A background in education, natural science, theatre or related field is preferred.
- Experience working with children and families in a fun educational setting is preferred.
- Must be able to effectively communicate with people of all ages, educational backgrounds, and cultural diversity.
- Excellent communication and interpretation skills.
- Must be customer service oriented and have a mature, positive, and professional attitude.
- Must be able to work in a team atmosphere and be self-motivated.
- Ability to work outdoors majority of the day in various weather conditions.
- Willingness to handle reptiles, birds, mammals, and invertebrates preferred.
- Prior animal handling experience is preferred but not required.
