The Alexandria Area YMCA is seeking a Day Camp Site Coordinator to oversee daily camp operations and lead staff in delivering a safe, engaging, and high-quality camp experience. This role is ideal for someone who is confident in supervising staff, managing day-to-day logistics, and making real-time decisions that support both campers and team members.

Position Summary:
The Day Camp Site Coordinator is responsible for the overall daily operation of a camp site, including staff supervision, schedule management, behavior support, and program execution. This individual serves as the on-site leader and primary decision-maker, ensuring staff are supported and campers are safe and engaged.
While this role may occasionally step into ratio, the primary focus is leading staff, not solely direct childcare.
What You’ll Do:
- Lead and supervise day camp staff, including counselors and support staff
- Make day-to-day operational decisions to ensure smooth program flow
- Manage and adjust staff schedules, breaks, and coverage as needed
- Provide real-time support and coaching to staff throughout the day
- Address and manage behavioral situations with campers and support staff in implementing appropriate strategies
- Serve as the main point of contact for staff, families, and leadership during program hours
- Ensure all YMCA policies, safety procedures, and ratios are consistently followed
- Maintain a positive, organized, and structured camp environment
- Step into ratio when necessary to support staff and maintain coverage
- Support communication with families as needed
Leadership Responsibilities:
- Model strong leadership, professionalism, and accountability
- Build a positive team culture and foster staff engagement
- Provide clear expectations, direction, and follow-through
- Support conflict resolution among staff and campers
- Ensure consistency in discipline and behavior management practices
- Assist in training and mentoring staff
- Previous leadership or supervisory experience strongly preferred
- Experience working with children in group settings
- Ability to lead a team and make confident decisions in a fast-paced environment
- Strong communication and organizational skills
- Must be at least 18 years old
- CPR, First Aid, AED, and Child Abuse Prevention certifications (within 30 days of hire)
- Ability to work with diverse populations
