About the Job
The Music Specialist & Songleader is accountable for all aspects of the assigned program area of camp. Responsibilities include planning age-appropriate activities for campers in grades K-6, preparing activities and activity area, leading activities for groups consisting of 15-18 campers. In addition, the Music Specialist & Songleader must prepare necessary instruments, speakers, and other equipment, and perform for all JCamps. The Songleader performs twice a day, once for morning flagpole and once for end of the day song session or Shabbat.
You’ll wow us by masterfully performing the following key duties and responsibilities:
- Program and facilitate 3-5 groups each day, often seeing the same group twice each week.
- Write and implement lesson plans related to their program area.
- Program Jewish core values within this area.
- Facilitate, plan, and execute JCamps special events and theme days.
- Plan up to four week-long club activities for 3rd-6th grade campers. These clubs may be themed outside of the designated specialty area.
- Perform during Flagpole, Song Session and Shabbat.
- Create a setlist and plan with the JCamps admin team to executive songs, transitions, and engagement with campers and staff.
- Other duties as assigned.
- Eligible candidates must be at least 18 years old. Eligible candidates also must have graduated from High School or obtained a GED by the start of camp. JCamps staff are required to pass all criminal history background checks, including an FBI fingerprint check. They must also obtain a current CPR and First-Aid certification. Prior teaching experience in the area of specialty is preferred.
- Specialists are based out of the JCamps Office but will be expected to execute daily responsibilities throughout Shalom Austin’s campus. Specialists will be assigned to a specific area of Shalom Austin’s campus outdoors where groups will travel to attend their specialty. Due to the nature of the position, Specialists must be able to be on their feet for most of the day. The employee must frequently lift and/or move objects up to 20 pounds. Specialists must have the ability to be outside and handle Austin summer heat.
- This position is a seasonal full-time position. The expected hours are from 8AM-4PM Monday through Friday, with opportunities to work until 5:30. Seasonal work begins with the first day of orientation on May 31 and goes through July 31 with opportunities to work through August 14. Hours are subject to change based on the camp’s needs.
