About the Job
The Aquatics Operations Specialist is an essential part of the JCamps team, providing thorough and consistent logistical support to the JCamps Department with a specific focus-area on pool and aquatics activities. This position is responsible for aiding with camp counselors during transitions and pool activities where they will be helping to ensure that campers and counselors are safe and abiding by JCamps and JAquatics procedures.
You'll wow us by masterfully performing the following key duties and responsibilities:
- Keep and communicate a record of staff presence and appropriate participation for swim activities (staff must be dressed out, active in the pool).
- Maintain a presence at pool spaces and actively monitor bunks while they are at/in the pool.
- Ensure that staff are accounting for all campers while transitioning to and from the pool deck.
- Assist with camper changing and preparation for swim times/blocks.
- Maintain confidentiality regarding program participants and JCamps staff.
- Serve as substitute counselor in the event of a counselor's absence during the core hours of camp.
- Other duties as assigned.
- Eligible candidates must be at least 18 years old. Eligible candidates also must have graduated from High School or obtained a GED by the start of camp. Experience with Elementary Aged children (grades K-6) is preferred. JCamps staff are required to pass all criminal history background checks, including an FBI fingerprint check. They must also obtain a current CPR and First-Aid certification
- The Aquatics Operations Specialist is based out of the JCamps Office but will spend a majority of their day outside on the pool deck. Due to the nature of the position, the Aquatics Operations Specialist must be able to be on their feet for most of the day. The employee must frequently lift and/or move objects up to 20 pounds. Aquatics Operations Specialists must have the ability to be outside and handle Austin summer heat.
- This position is a seasonal full-time position. The expected hours are from 8AM-4PM Monday through Friday, with opportunities to work until 5:30. Seasonal work begins with the first day of orientation on May 31 and goes through July 31 with opportunities to work through August 14. Hours are subject to change based on the camp’s needs.
