Description
Purpose of the Role
To manage and design the structural aspects of projects, including but not limited to, structural steel frames, equipment support structures, skid assemblies, foundations, and load-bearing systems, ensuring compliance with applicable building codes and industry standards.
Key Responsibilities and Duties
- Development of structural steel design packages including plans, sections, and details
- Creation of structural calculation packages for steel members, connections, anchorage, and lifting points
- Perform finite element analysis (FEA) to validate structural integrity under static and dynamic loading conditions
- Utilize RISA3D for structural modeling and analysis
- Review and approve structural fabrication drawings for construction
- Coordinate structural requirements with mechanical, electrical, and manufacturing teams
- Provide stamped engineering drawings and calculations where required, including application for reciprocity for required states.
- Support manufacturing and field service during fabrication, installation, and commissioning
- Adhere to company and client engineering standards and procedures
- Communicate with contractors and customers using clear verbal and written communication
Requirements
Education Requirement
- Bachelor’s degree in Civil or Structural Engineering (ABET Accreditation)
- Professional Engineer (PE) license required with ability to stamp drawings
Skills
- Strong understanding of structural engineering principles, steel design methodologies, and applicable codes (IBC, AISC, ASCE)
- Advanced proficiency in RISA3D
- Experience performing and interpreting finite element analysis
- Ability to develop comprehensive structural calculation packages
- Working knowledge of structural steel connection design
- Proficiency in reading and reviewing fabrication drawings
- Sheet metal working practices and evaluation techniques
- Expertise with welding codes such as AWS D1.1/D1.1M
- Familiarity with Autodesk Inventor preferred but not required
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Advanced problem-solving and analytical abilities
- Focus and attention to detail for complex structural systems
- Ability to work in a collaborative team environment
- Strong time management and organizational skills
- Fluent in English
Experience
- Minimum 10 years of progressive structural engineering experience
- Demonstrated experience designing structural steel packages for industrial or commercial applications
- Experience stamping and sealing engineering drawings
- Experience coordinating with fabrication shops and field installation teams
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook)
