Position Summary


The IT Manager at the Masonic Medical Research Institute (MMRI) is responsible for managing and coordinating the Institute’s information technology operations in support of scientific research, administration, and day-to-day operations. This position ensures that MMRI’s technology infrastructure is secure, reliable, scalable, and aligned with both current needs and future growth.

The IT Manager oversees systems, networks, cloud platforms, cybersecurity, and end-user support while leveraging automation and artificial intelligence (AI)–enabled tools to improve operational efficiency, system reliability, data security, and user experience.


Essential Duties and Responsibilities


IT Operations and Leadership

  • The IT Manager oversees daily IT operations and provides direct supervision, guidance, and technical support to IT staff and vendors. This role ensures consistent, responsive, and user-focused IT services across the Institute.
  • The position collaborates closely with MMRI leadership, researchers, and administrative staff to align technology solutions with research and operational objectives.

Infrastructure, Systems, and Cloud Management

  • The IT Manager coordinates planning and maintenance for MMRI’s technology infrastructure, including networks, servers, workstations, information systems, video systems, and voice systems.
  • This role supports the administration and optimization of hybrid Microsoft 365 environments and assists with the planning, implementation, and enhancement of new Microsoft 365 capabilities.
  • The IT Manager assists with capacity planning, configuration, and monitoring of cloud-based resources including AWS, Google Cloud, and Cloudflare, ensuring scalability, security, and cost efficiency.

Cybersecurity, Risk, and Business Continuity

  • The IT Manager implements and maintains IT policies, procedures, and standards related to cybersecurity, data protection, system access, and acceptable use.
  • This role supports the design and maintenance of firewall policies, routing, switching, and network security controls to protect institutional data, software, and hardware.
  • The IT Manager maintains and periodically tests disaster recovery and business continuity plans to ensure research and administrative systems remain operational during disruptions.

Automation, AI, and Emerging Technologies

  • The IT Manager supports the responsible use of automation and AI-enabled technologies to enhance IT operations, system monitoring, cybersecurity awareness, and service delivery.
  • This role evaluates and implements intelligent tools that assist with IT service management, system performance monitoring, workflow automation, and reporting while ensuring ethical use, data security, and compliance with institutional policies.
  • The IT Manager remains current on emerging technologies and evaluates their applicability within a research-focused environment.

Collaboration and Support

  • The IT Manager works collaboratively with research teams, administrative departments, and external partners to implement technology installations, upgrades, and system enhancements.
  • This role provides clear communication and guidance to non-technical users and ensures IT solutions are practical, secure, and aligned with MMRI’s mission.


Requirements

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Telecommunications, or a related field or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • 3 -5 years of experience in IT operations, systems administration, or infrastructure support.
  • Experience supporting users in a professional, academic, healthcare, or research environment preferred.
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft 365, network infrastructure, cybersecurity fundamentals, and cloud-based systems.
  • Experience or familiarity with automation tools and AI-enabled platforms used in IT operations or enterprise environments.
  • Strong problem-solving skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities.
  • Strong interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills.
  • Relevant certifications and continuing education are preferred.

Physical Requirements

  • Prolonged periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
  • Ability to lift, carry, push, and pull up to 15 pounds at times.
  • Ability to bend, stretch, push, pull, and move as needed to reach, clean, and service equipment.
  • Ability to visually inspect machines and equipment.
  • Ability to reach with hands and arms.
  • Ability to speak, hear, read, and comprehend English.

Work Conditions

  • Office environment working primarily at a desk with a computer and phone.
  • Laboratory workstation environment at times.
  • Noise level is usually quiet to moderate.
Salary Description
$75,000-$80,000 per year
