Our new assessment center will increase testing opportunities, improve standardization, and incorporate cutting-edge technology, ensuring that future chiropractors are fully prepared to serve patients with skill, integrity, and excellence.
Headquartered in Greeley, Colorado, (NBCE) is the international testing organization for the chiropractic profession, with the mission of ensuring professional competency and public safety through excellence in testing. Established in 1963, NBCE develops, administers, and scores standardized examinations for candidates seeking chiropractic licensure in all 50 states, the District of Columbia, and in several international countries.
ROLE SUMMARY:
The Standardized Patient Educator (SPE) is responsible for training, quality assurance, and the ongoing professional development of Standardized Patients (SPs) and Technique Patients (TPs) used in high-stakes clinical skills assessments. This role ensures that SPs accurately and consistently portray patient cases, provide reliable ratings, where applicable, and adhere to strict protocols and confidentiality standards. The SPE is also actively involved in the recruitment and selection of SPs and TPs to ensure a skilled and reliable pool of participants. This role requires a high level of professionalism, reliability, and discretion in a high-stakes exam environment.
OVERVIEW OF ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
Recruitment and Onboarding
· Participate in recruiting, interviewing, selecting, and onboarding SPs and TPs.
· Assist in screening SP’s performance to ensure baseline competencies.
· Assist in identifying SPs, based on case criteria, for cases portrayed during examinations.
Coaching
· Adapt training for a diverse pool of SPs.
· Deliver comprehensive case-specific training to SPs, ensuring the accurate portrayal of symptoms, emotional effect, physical findings, and history.
· Implement dry runs or rehearsals with SPs prior to events.
· Coordinate last-minute adjustments and replacements, as needed, to ensure full event coverage.
Quality Assurance and Performance Monitoring
· Observe SPs and TPs performance during examinations, and provide feedback and remediation as needed.
· Conduct post-exam debriefs with SPs and TPs and contribute to continuous improvement efforts.
· Maintain orderly rotation of SPs and TPs, conduct debriefs, and maintain safety during examinations.
Operational and Exam Support
· Assist with logistical planning and exam day coordination, ensuring SPs and TPs are well-prepared and exams run smoothly.
· Support secure handling and delivery of exam content in line with organizational policies and exam board guidelines.
· Serve as a backup for SPs as needed.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
Education and Experience
· Associate’s degree in health sciences, education, or theatre, or 2+ years of equivalent work experience (e.g., training, medical simulation, education, or standardized/simulated patient).
· Experience assessing individuals in a professional or educational setting.
· Experience in coaching, feedback, theatre or healthcare education.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
· Ability to memorize, internalize, and realistically portray case scenarios, and coach others to do the same.
· Ability to coach and provide constructive feedback.
· Willingness to be videotaped.
· Strong interpersonal skills to effectively interact with standardized and technique patients, examinees, faculty, and other administrative staff.
· Strong written and verbal communication skills required.
· The ability to remain focused and composed when handling sensitive topics and emotional reactions from examinees during assessments, or debriefings which may arise.
· High attention to detail and a commitment to maintain confidentiality and security standards.
· Intermediate computer skills and knowledge of Microsoft Office.
· Organizational and prioritization skills and abilities.
· Ability to become part of an effective team.
· Ability to serve as a backup for standardized patients as needed.
· Ability to work required weekends, with flexibility to work during the week as needed.
· Valid Colorado driver’s license, or timely obtain, and satisfactory motor vehicle record.
· Legally authorized to work in the U.S. for any employer.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
· Knowledge and understanding of medical terminology.
· Experience with medical simulation and acting.
· Experience with SPs and an understanding of clinical interviewing and physical exams.

COMPENSATION
Hiring Range: $28.63 – $34.35 per hour based on qualifications and experience.
