The Family Coach works directly with individuals and families using a relationship-based, strengths-focused approach to promote financial wellbeing. The Family Coach partners with families to identify opportunities, set meaningful goals, and support positive changes that strengthen overall stability.
This role centers on building trust, initiating supportive conversations, and helping families identify achievable goals that expand opportunities and strengthen their ability to navigate everyday financial and household decisions. A core expectation is to proactively reach out, engage families in program spaces, and initiate conversations that create pathways for participation in coaching and supportive programs.
The Action Center is developing a dynamic community center in a repurposed elementary school, bringing together health and supportive services from multiple organizations under one roof. Through strong leadership and partnership, a coordinated system of care will provide comprehensive, collaborative services that empower the community to build healthier, more stable lives. The Action Center expects to move into this new space in 2027.
DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES
- Proactively engage families in internal program spaces such as the grocery, clothing market, workshops, and waiting areas.
- Initiate supportive conversations to explore families’ goals, priorities, and opportunities.
- Conduct intentional outreach both internally within programs and externally in the community.
- Build and maintain meaningful, trusting relationships with participating families.
- Identify families who may benefit from coaching and invite them into the program.
- Support families in identifying achievable financial and household goals.
- Guide participants in budgeting, income planning, savings habits, and financial decision-making.
- Help families understand how everyday choices influence long-term opportunities.
- Support the Agency with household priorities and administrative decision-making.
- Partner with families to develop and maintain a Family Progress Plan outlining goals, action steps, and timelines.
- Conduct regular follow-ups to review progress and adjust plans as needed.
- Help families recognize their strengths, assets, and opportunities for growth.
- Encourage accountability and confidence in decision-making.
- Collaborate with internal teams to ensure coordinated support.
Documentation & Program Support
- Maintain accurate participant records, coaching notes, and progress plans in agency databases.
- Track engagement and participant progress.
- Support program evaluation and reporting needs.
Collaboration & Community Presence
- Participate in team meetings and cross-department coordination.
- Support group classes or workshops related to financial wellbeing or life skills.
- Represent the program in partner meetings or community settings when appropriate.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
- Proficiency in both English and Spanish (reading, writing, and speaking) is required
- Demonstrated expertise in a person-centered approach, prioritizing individual needs and values of those we serve to provide compassionate support
- Bachelor’s degree in social work, psychology, education, finance, and community
- development, or related field preferred (relevant experience may substitute).
- Minimum 3 years of experience working directly with families or adults in coaching, education, workforce, or support roles.
- Strong relational skills and comfort initiating conversations in open program environments.
- Commitment to culturally responsive, strengths-based practices.
- Organizational and documentation skills.
Preferred Qualifications
- Training in Motivational Interviewing or coaching approaches.
- Experience facilitating workshops or group learning spaces.
- Knowledge of community resources and economic opportunity pathways.
- Experience working with families experiencing financial hardship.
Physical Demands
The work involves normal physical activity associated with an office environment, and the position may occasionally support the grocery and clothing bank. Must be able to lift 25 lbs.

The work involves the normal physical activity associated with an office environment. The schedule will be regular business hours with some weekend and evening hours as necessary to meet job requirements.
May attend outside meetings with community members, partners, and other resource organizations as well as partner with elementary school locations.
