What we are looking for:
We are seeking an internal communications specialist to support the execution of employee communications and help ensure employees stay informed, aligned, and engaged. This role focuses on writing and editing internal-facing content across channels, with a primary emphasis on intranet communications.
The specialist will work closely with the editorial manager and communications team to help develop and deliver internal messaging, producing clear, accurate, and timely communications that reflect established editorial standards. This role is suited for a detail-oriented professional who can manage multiple assignments, collaborate effectively, and consistently deliver polished work under deadlines.
Essential Functions:

- Produce high-quality internal communications content across channels. Write, edit, and refine copy to ensure employee communications are clear, accurate, engaging, and aligned with established messaging and editorial standards.
- Conduct the necessary research to understand audience needs, context, and purpose to develop effective employee communications.
- Consider competing communication priorities, internal communications best practices, and team guidelines to develop effective strategies. Work with stakeholders to manage expectations, advocate for employees, and champion best approaches.
- Translate complex, process-driven or routine information into concise, accessible communications that inform, engage, and support understanding.
- Prepare and publish content in the intranet content management system, applying sound editorial judgment and best practices for presenting content clearly and effectively.
- Maintain high editorial standards across all internal communications.
- Manage multiple assignments, meet deadlines, and adapt to shifting priorities in a fast-paced environment.
- Collaborate closely with the editorial manager and broader communications team, contributing as needed to cross-channel communications initiatives.
Qualifications or Competencies:
- Bachelor’s degree in communications, journalism, English, public relations or a related field.
- Three to five years of proven experience in internal communications, employee communications or related writing and editing roles.
- Advanced knowledge of internal communications best practices.
- Exceptional writing, editing, and proofreading skills, with a deep command of AP Style.
- Excellent interpersonal and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to translate complex, routine, or process-driven information into clear, concise communications that employees can understand and act on.
- Strong editorial judgment, including evaluating content for clarity, accuracy, relevance, tone and alignment with organizational messaging.
- Solid research and analytical skills, with the ability to anticipate audience needs and questions to develop communications that resonate and support understanding.
- Comfortable managing multiple assignments and deadlines in a fast-paced environment while maintaining quality, consistency and attention to detail. Experience with content management systems and associated best practices for publishing, formatting and organizing internal communications content.
- Veteran status or experience working in a military support organization is highly desirable.
Position Type:
This is a full-time position. Days and hours of work are Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.
